Noisy Erskine Street

This is a hotel with its pluses. I liked the nice service (which alone enabled me to give this hotel a mark of above 5) , the continental breakfast facilities provided on the first floor (though there is the slowness in getting the morning papers there at an early hour), the rooftop laundry and the nicely-priced lunch and dinners. But on the minus side - there are two. One is lack of an elevator, which means that all luggage needs to be carried up some steep stairs. If you are in a wheelchair, then look elsewhere. Bar staff can assist with heavy luggage. The other minus, largely beyond the hotel's control, is the incredible street noise. Imagine the sound of a glass bin being emptied at about 3:30 in the morning, throw in other noisy council vehicles such as a street cleaner at about 3 am onwards, then add a noisy scooter that services a nearby 24-hour convenience store with supplies (or something), blend in the sound of virtually every last North Shore bus that drives next to (but not quite past) the hotel until the wee small hours, throw in the the sound of a set of traffic pedestrian lights clicking away incessantly at the corner of Clarence and Erskine streets , and you can then understand just how noisy this part of Erskine Street can be that time of the morning. Appalling! Not suprisingly , I slept very little the night I was there. At least no noise came in from neighbouring rooms, though the corridor floor was quite creaky. The noise problem in that part of the Sydney CBD is something perhaps best addressed by the Sydney City Council, given its primary source.
