Could you find a more central place to stay without the noise of a backpackers hostel. The ideal place to see the city from, and just has a great laid back appeal. Staff very helpful just down the road from the rocks and very close to the QVB etc
A bit noisy!

On the positive side, you get receptive staff (when they are on duty!), some nice furniture in the rooms and some nice views of York St or Erskine Street (depending on your room's location)
On the negative side there is the noise! There is the traffic from the street, the sounds of council vehicles doing seemingly never-ending street operations, the sounds of noisy drunks noisily drifting in from the Rocks area, and the noise of fellow guests watching TV and talking loudly. You may be unfortunate as I was - be next to a guest who had the TV on full blast at 3-4 am and soforth, with no avenue of appeal if the guest chooses not to be reasonable and responsive.
Definitely not for the noise-sensitive. It's not a bad place for a reasonably priced counter-meal and a happy hour drink but to be a hotel guest - well, you have been warned!
