Amazing!
from A TripAdvisor MemberI definitely recommend this hotel. The hotel manager did say that prices would eventually be increased but that this would happen very gradually as they didn't want to lose their regular clientele...guess it's a matter of staying there sooner rather than later.
Wasn't bothered by any of the noise mentioned in previous posts, perhaps because I stayed on the 12th floor, also the curtains (also new) seemed to be very thick and lined which I think would cut out a lot of noise.
Will Stay Here Again
from TalulaWe found the hotel handy for all the attractions, we did walk a lot though!. Monorail stop just round corner, taxi's stop outside also, can not comment on buses. The rooms were fantastic as just been renovated, clean & comfy for two.
The reception staff were all very polite and friendly they went out of there way to help with any advice needed. The view from the roof top on the 45 floor is fantastic, though did not use the pool as it felt on the cold side for me. Lovely cafe next door, for your breakfast/snacks if wanted.
The only down side as previously mentioned was the street noise, but I sorted that out by having a couple extra glasses of wine before going to bed!!.
Brits in Sydney

from A TripAdvisor MemberThe hotel is indeed old and worn with small rooms, but this is just as well because with the loactation they have if it was new and shiny it would merit being incredibly expensive. As it is it is clean and friendly and incredibly well located - I think it is literally half as expensive as any other hotel within a Kilometre radius.
Great value for money.
Ideal base for sightseeing in Sydney, particularly if not a great walker.
from KiwigranA short walk and 2 pedestrian crossings gets you to the Monorail station, and to get to the underground Town Hall station. Two crossings the other way, takes you to Hyde park and a pleasant stroll to the Bondi Explorer Bus stop, or to view a lovely church or a fine fountain. You can continue the stroll through the Domain to Circular Quay.
Across the road from the hotel is a taxi rank, and just around the corner is the bus stop.
We ate at the cafe right next door, and at the Catholic Club a few doors away. There is a pub at the corner and other coffee bars, and 2 ATM machines nearby. A dairy is over the road. Central city shopping a stroll away.
We were 2 senior couples with adjoining rooms, and were very pleased with them.
The rooms were comfortable and had enough room when we got together for a chat or coffee, with a couch, 2 chairs and table, and 4 cups and saucers and plenty of sachets of coffee etc. in each room.
The showers had good pressure, were hot, and were easy to access, with a handy ledge as support for a partly disabled person, and large towels.
We were on the 9th floor and overlooked the busy roads and the corner of Hyde park. We enjoyed watching the people and traffic, but the downside to this was the traffic noise at night. Sirens could blare and we recommend ear plugs to cope with this!
The lighting was not great for reading, but a large photo in the foyer shows how this hotel will look after refurbishment, and more lighting is planned and the decor should look very attractive.
We found the staff very friendly. The price we paid from New Zealand was
less than NZ $100 p.n. which was excellent compared to anything else we'd looked at. Due to flight delays we had to return for 2 extra nights and these cost A$117.
As a disabled person using a small mobility scooter, the access from outside was excellent, through a side door, and the scooter could be taken in the lift and into the bedroom to be plugged in for a battery recharge.
On the 45th floor was a commercial type laundry for guests to use for a small charge. It had a wonderful view too!
Step outside at this level, and there was a sheltered viewing and sunbathing area and swimming pool. We went at night to see the lights, and by day to see the sights..it was great.
Although we had only one really fit walker in our group, we were able to walk to Circular Quay, Darling harbour, and Star City Casino from the hotel. The Sydney city footpaths, ramps, and lifts were excellent for the mobility scooter.
The Queen Victoria building and other large shopping centres were within easy reach of the 'shopoholic' in our group.
We enjoyed the central city location, and as there were rain showers most days, a handy comfortable, home base was great.
When the Park Regis is refurbished soon as a 31/2 star Leisure Inn hotel it should be an even more attractive place to stay.
Basic accomodation in very good location
from Cartman88Must say I had a fairly average experience before I even arrived - I had e-mailed their Reservations Dept requesting rates and they replied offering me $90 per night - thought this was very reasonable so e-mailed back to confirm the booking - a couple of days later I had not heard back so I phoned them - the guy I spoke to said I had been given incorrect information so asked me to fax in proof of the e-mail - I was happy to do this but thought they could have check with the Reservations Mngr who had sent the e-mail or surely they have a "sent items" folder on their computer - in the end they honoured the price.
Check in took longer than I would have liked and I had alot of trouble understanding the staff member - there were others at the front desk complaining about their room.
My room was very basic and quite old/tired - tv had no remote control - no ironing board or iron in the room - air conditioning not very effective.
Despite the above I would consider staying here again for a short stay due to the excellent location - right in the heart of Sydney and close to all public transport (especially monorail).
If you get quoted more than $125 per night you may like to consider other alternatives.
Careful with this one
from A TripAdvisor MemberNo problems
from SaucebrickAfter reading the other review we were a little concerned – but there was no need. The hotel is situated in an ideal location, close to transport links, shops etc and only about a ten minute pleasant walk to circular quay. On arrival we were given maps and information on various tourist attractions by the very helpful and friendly reception staff.
Our room was more than adequate for what we wanted, after all we planned on using the hotel just as a base while we done all the usual tourist things in and around Sydney. As it turned out we spent longer in our room than we had originally planned but we still couldn’t complain because for the cost, we reckoned we got value for money.
The room, though fairly small, contained a comfortable double bed, bedroom furniture, wardrobe and a desk with a large mirror above it. There was a colour TV, phone, air-con, electric kettle and small fridge, all in working order. We had an en-suit equipped with a shower (no bath) but again, we found that this suited our needs.
There is a roof-top swimming pool (which we didn’t have time to use) along with very good views of the city, unfortunately the harbour view is obscured by other buildings. The laundry room is also on the top floor. This large room contains enough washing machines and dryers (I can’t remember how many), worktops, iron and ironing board. Small sachets of washing powder are available from reception for a small charge.
There are free newspapers available every morning and the rooms are cleaned every day with a change of towels and tea/coffee/milk sachets. We found the service to be very good. If a safe deposit box is required, just ask at reception and they will oblige for no extra charge.
Overall we were pleased with our stay and accommodation, when taking into consideration the location, what we paid (£44 prpn), and the fact that we had read some less than flattering reviews! Okay, the hotel is starting to show signs of wear, but not enough to detract from your stay. We did hear that this hotel is due for a major overhaul sometime in 2005.
Everything that we used worked – lifts, washing machines, shower, TV etc. The staff were very helpful and the location is ideal. We would definitely stay there again (if the cost isn’t too prohibitive after the overhaul) and would recommend it to anyone looking for low cost accommodation in a safe, central part of the city.
Top Local Tips for Sydney
Go to the Power House Museum If you are travelling with children aged 7 up, do go to the Power House Museum. We spent hours there - it was great with lots of interactive activities.
Monorail Light rail If you are staying a week buy get on the light train and buy a monorail light rail unlimited pass for $28. This sort of pass is not available at the monorail stations (sneaky) Also recommend a train bus and ferry pass 7 days only $56
Harbor Bridge Climb My husband climbed the bridge for the second time and came back even more invigorated than the first. He hopes to go again in two years for a special birthday. Can't recommend this activity any more highly. The guides were great and even on an overcast day the experience was A+.
