Not a great location: central but quite a dodgy area - I would book somewhere nearer the harbour in future. The staff were quite friendly but there was a mix-up with our booking which didn't help (to be fair it was over New Year). Our room was small and the bed was not very comfrortable. The bathroom was tiny and not very clean.
It was not very expensive but I would definitely not rush back here. A good hostel would be better!

strong smell of paint!

This is in the middle of the CBD and is pretty much the same as all other Ibis hotels. The only thing that distinguished it was that it had obviously been very recently painted and the smell of paint was overpowering. There was a queue at reception to complain about it. Also on our arrival there was blood in our basin, we complained and ti was cleaned but that is unacceptable. Usually you can't go too wrong with a chain hotel like this but this was one of those rare times!

4 of us stayed here on a "girl's weekend"- we had 2 rooms, strangely not next to each other but on the same floor. The hotel is quite unremarkable, although clean. The beds were the lumpiest ever- almost fell of it when I sat on it (well, there was only 1 chair in the room, but 2 people). The wall needed repainting. However there was a large plasma screen TV on our wall (not in the other room though). The staff were competent but no better. I wouldn't stay here again and probably wouldn't chosen to stay except that someone else had booked and paid for it in advance.
Overpriced Hostel

I stayed at the Ibis in Dec 2005 and have to say that I've stayed in hostels that had better beds and more services. There is no in-house restraunt which meant that I had to wander outside of the hotel in search of somewhere that would serve food for my specialty diet - at least in a hostel I could have cooked it myself! The beds where horrid - like staying in your grandmothers spare room that hadn't been cleaned in years. There were no bathtubs, only a shower and sink. So all the reasons why I would have spent money on a hotel room in the first place, this place didn't deliver on. The location was a bit dodgy as well.

The location is excellent, and the internet in the room works. Our rooms were clean (my wife and I have stayed here twice now). The beds are indeed pretty bad, and you can feel the springs. The pillows are even worse, as they are way too firm and high.
The bathrooms are clean, but the second time we stayed there was a sewage smell coming from the bathroom. The shower stall is also very cramped for two people, and there is no tub.
The air conditioner and heater does work, but you have to call the front desk to get them to switch from heat to cooling. It is okay, but a tad inconvenient the first couple of days when you are trying to figure it out.
The Internet worked for us no problem. The other person that made a review saying it didn't work either had a bum connection or didn't have his/her computer network settings set correctly.
The service was okay, but one time, the housecleaner tried to trick us. My wife and I were 100% positive that we removed the "i'm sleeping" tag from the door and put it inside. When we came back a few hours later, it was taken back out from inside and placed on the outside of the door. The housekeeper went in, took the "i'm sleeping tag" out and put it back on the outside of the door. He/she wanted us to believe that we forgot to remove it and hence, never got our room cleaned, when I'm guessing he/she just got lazy and didn't feel like cleaning that day.
The front desk staff are decent. Not exceptional service by any standard, but not bad either.
I would stay there again for the location, but don't expect to get great service. It is a very average hotel.

This is more like a cheap run down hostel

We stayed here for 2 nights, as we flew in for the wekend. We booked this hotel as part of a package so didnt have much choice on hotel.
They advertise as 3 star but its really more like 1 star or 1.5, getting to 2 would be an accomplishment.
Staff- unproffessional, immature, rude, unhelpful and snappy
rooms- very small and tiny, NOT like the brochure. I cant beleive they call this a 3 star hotel! what an embarrasment to IBIS chain!
WC- showers were not bad,however, there is a 1 inch ledge to get into the bathroom and i almost broke the heel of my foot twice on my way to the bathroom..they have no warnings in the rooms

This hotel is terrible. I booked it for my family at the last minute when accomodations with friends fell through based on the Ibis/Accor name and was sorely disappointed to the point that I am writing the company. The location is good and that is the only positive thing I can say about it. The beds were terrible--you could feel every spring and we woke up with coil marks on our bodies. The pillows were flat and the carpet and furniture covered in stains and chips. The electrical outlets worked inconsistently and there was tons of noise. With the exception of one worker, the desk staff were rude and unhelpful. The "laundry" consists of one washer and a drier that doesn't work and is located underneath the hotel at the intersection of two dark hallways and a staircase right next to the service area of the hotel--there were no signs, poor lighting, etc. and I felt unsafe there by myself. We were able to walk up the street to the Metro on Pitt which was very nice and book there for $5 cheaper, so the "budget hotel" excuse cannot be used here!!

I am writing because I want to share my terrible experience at Ibis World Square in Sydney. We booked this hotel because it is the fifth Ibis I have visited. I have been in Amsterdam, Manchester, Barcelona, Paris and now Sydney. That gives you an idea that I know what to expect from the Ibis chain (standard rooms, yeah, but CLEAN, TIDY, COISY rooms, clean bed sheets and NOTHING ELSE). I thought that booking an Ibis I couldn´t be wrong. Well my friends, two weeks before going to Sydney I saw the review of the people in this web and I was a bit worried about my choosen hotel but I did not believed what they said. I thought that people was expecting more facilities or specific things that I knew that the Ibis don´t ususually provide.
When I made the booking I was asked if I wanted any special request. I ask double room (1 bed), smoking and away of the lifts doors. When I arrived they allocated us in a non smoking room and just in front of the lifts. The walls of the room are plain white, no pictures, no nothing. The shower has the floor tiled. The space in between the tiles is turning black. Never mind to put a feet on that floor. Thanks god I had flip-flops otherwise you really need to put a tower in the floor to avoid any disease (Again, not IBIS standards at all). I spoken with the manager and he kindly offered me to change my room the following day which we agreed. The following day we were told to pack the bags and collect the key later on for our new room. When we picked up the keys... three out of three. NON SMOKING ROOM, IN FRONT OF THE LIFTS AND NOW, A TWIN ROOM (2 beds). We spoken to a different manager wich explanation was that because he was off the day before he was not expecting to take resposibility of the problem. I ask him to give me a solution. His solution: wait for the following day to see what happen... (so he was not even giving us warranty of getting what we wanted) or LEAVE THE HOTEL. Yes my friends. That is the way they resolve the problems: inviting their gests to leave the hotel.
We decided to leave the hotel straigth away. We went to the AVILION HOTEL. It is located just at the other side of the road. 30 SECONDS WALKING from door to door. We had a fantastic stay there, incredible customer service and a room to die for just for AUD50 more of what we were paying at the IBIS. If you can avoid it, do it. You will not regret it. You can find fantastic rooms and so much quality and better customer service in many other hotels in Sydney at the same price or just a bit more. That bit is worth it.

Avoid this hotel at all costs

This may be the worst hotel I ever enountered. The room was spartan, with the only chair a very small desk chair. The shower stall was tiny. There was a floor drain in the bathroom that smelled strongly of sewage. In-room internet access was advertised, and did not work. The bed was very uncomfortable, and houseekkping provided only the barest minimum supllies of towels (no bath mat), soap, handtowels (none), and washcloths (none). The rooms have apparently little or no soundproofing. The front desk staff were defensive and not very helpful. There are much better lodging choices in Sydney for about the same cost. Whatever else you do, avoid this hotel.
Bare bones

My wife and I went to Australia for our honeymoon and were assigned the Ibis World Square as part of the "run of the house" package we got from Qantas vacations. I'm finding that what Australians consider a 4-star hotel does not even come close to measuring up to what a Holiday Inn or Best Western offers in the U.S. No tub, rooms were dirty and extremely cramped-not the place for a romantic honeymoon. This hotel is probably more appropriate for a traveling student as the rates were low and the free breakfast was decent enough. The staff was friendly, however, and the location was close enough to walk to a lot of good shopping or catch the tram to Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, etc. Fortunately, there is so much to do in Sydney that we didn't have to stay in the room very much. If you are looking at vacation packages, spend the extra hundred bucks or so and go with the higher-end hotels as Sydney is one of the more amazing places you will visit.
Top Local Tips for Sydney
Excellent Public Transport System DO NOT HIRE A CAR !! Traffic is horrendous in city centre. Public trabsport including ferries, buses and trains are excellent. If ytou staying for 3 days, get the 'Sydney Pass', currently AU$110 per person. This includes unlimited travel on ferries, buses and trains- worked out perfect for us !
Close to clubs and places to eat Stay here if you dont mind sleeping on a hard bed and hearing noise from the room next to u and from outside. Wouldnt recommend this hotel for people that have back problems or elderly because the bed would surely make your back sore! The location was pretty good though and close to shops, places to eat and go out and staff was polite and helpful.
Check in times While I was checking out a group of American tourists were trying to check in straight off the early morning flight from San Francisco...and were told check in was not till 2.00pm....so overseas visitors, if you arrive early in the morning...you may have to walk the streets till 2.00pm if you want to stay at this hotel....
