Top Local Tips for Sydney
Sydney is very easy to move about. The main tourist areas of Sydney is very small. I was able to walk to most of the things (including the famous opera house) from my hotel. However, to see the most things I took a bus tour on the first day on one of those double decker buses. It was about 30 dollars and lasted for 24 hours. So I located sites in Sydney on the first day and went to Bondi beach on the bus the next day within my 24 hour period. It was a great value. Once I knew where the spots were, I got a Daytripper pass from the train station and used it to catch the train and the ferries for tourist or sites of interest that were further away. It is unlimited usage for a day and you can just hop on and hop off of trains, ferries and buses. It is excellent for getting over to Manly Beach. The city is very clean compared to many of its size and I felt perfectly safe walking around during the day and in the evening. I never felt threatened or uncomfortable.
Travel & Hotel & Location Use taxis to get around - they're cheaper than you think. Use Holiday Inn's - level of service and standard is great. Darling Harbour is exceptional.
