Top Local Tips for Katoomba
The Blue Mountains Rainforest I highly recommend going to the Scenic Railway center and buying the package that includes a trip on the rail, a trip on the Skytram and a walk on the boardwalk through the forest. When we first arrived in Katoomba, the valley was blanketed in mist and fog and we couldn't see a thing. If we hadn't taken the super-run rail trip down the cliff side to the rainforest where there used to be a substantial coal mining operation, we would never have seen as much as we were able to see. It was the highlight of our trip to katoomba. Our kids, two girls aged 9 and 12 and gramma, aged 72 all loved it.
Giant steps, 3 sisters, and raiforest walk. Walk in less than 5 mins to the 3 sisters and Echo Point, where we did the giant steps walk, then leura forest, through scenic world and then cable car to the top, and walk back around to motel. Highly reccommended walk. Good weather needed. Around 1,000 steps so decent fitness needed. Total time around 3.5 hours.
Katoomba Main street Katoomba has a great walkable main street. What fun to walk around for a couple of hours to stretch those legs after the drive or as a warmup to the hikes in the Blue Mountains. There is a fantastic hat shop, lots of antique stores and some great breakfast and lunch places.
