Approximately 30 people were watching the rugby (Australia v NZ)in the hotel and a man came into the room and turned the tv off. We asked what was happening and he said there was a booking at 6.30pm for 2 to have dinner in the section we were seated and we were not welcome to watch the rugby. Everyone was quite shocked and my wife questioned the decision and the management was extremely rude. All my wife wanted was an answer to the question - Why couldn't we stay and leave when the two arrived? They eventually banned my wife from the hotel. I understand they have a right to do this but the manager (owner) was an absolute tosser.
This is not the only problem I have had there. I have used their over snow transport (paid $20) to get my wife and 2 year old family to a lodge we were staying at. I had just bought a brand new pair of skis and when I got to the lodge the skis were severely damaged as they had been placed on the drive chain of the veichle and a huge gouge which cost $130 to reapir had occured. No compensation had been offered.
Also, every time I have been to the bar, it seems all the management are interested in are the locals who frequent the bar. The lodges at Guthega are important for the survival of the Hotel and village and I feel the Hotel staff's attitude toward the people from the lodges must change. Pick up your act you Wombats!!!!

Top Local Tips for Guthega

Beginner 'boarders - You will want to gear up In my second season of snowboarding, I realised that a lot of suffering can be avoided if you pay the extra money and kit up with protective gear. The best recommendations are wrist and knee-guards, followed by armoured shorts (as highly recommended by our friend). Wrist and knee guards cost about $9 per day to hire, however the friendly fellow at Guthega lent us two pairs of knee guards for free as they had been collecting dust out the back room for a while. It's amazing how much your confidence (and technique) improves when you're no longer afraid of bumps and bruises!
