Top Local Tips for Albury

Nothing to do, get in a canoe I am just back from a 2 week visit to Wodonga - Albury's Victorian neighbour. My brother-in-law arranged a day out canoeing along the Murray River with a local company and it landed up being a great way to spend a day in the Albury region. I forget the name of the company but if you have a look in the yellow pages you should come up trumps. The bloke that appeared to be running the show is great for a chat and has a few interesting tales of travels around the globe on his motorbikes. He will meet you at the paddle steamer (I think it is Norieul Park) and then transfer you further up stream where he will choose an apprpriate canoe or kayak and instruct you on how to use it. Life vests are provided. The paddle takes about 3 hours and is very leisurely. My 7 year old nephew shared a kayak with his father and managed without a problem. I suggest you pack a picnic and stop along the bank at a spot of your choosing to enjoy the day even more. The cost was @ $28 per person and we werent even charged for the child. At the end of the trip we all got stickers and I even received a company promotional shirt - BARGAIN! Unusually none of the locals appear to be making much use of the section of river we paddled. This might be due to the drought and the low water levels but I suspect this is just typically locals ignoring the bounty in their own back yard. Have fun!!
