Top Local Tips for Darwin
Buses are cheap and well routed. Get a local bus from the station near the end of Mitchell Street and you can get just about anywhere in Darwin in a/c comfort. Parap Markets were small enough to get over and done with in a husband friendly hour! The Sky City buffet was excellent value. Go feed the fish at Doctor's Gulley for a weird buzz. You have to pay a small amount to get in but the rest of the little venue is interesting too. You can't get a local bus to Litchfield National Park but if you are into waterfalls and massive ant hills or magnetic ones then get out to Litchfield for a half or whole day. Great picnic/bbq spots.
Airport Shuttle Bus to Value Inn, Darwin The airport shuttle bus is good value for solo /couples. It claims to drop off at all hotels in Darwin, however it does not drop off at the Value Inn because of congestion on the road outside the hotel. You are dropped off about a 5 minute walk away, however if you have heavy/ lots of luggage or a disability you may struggle.
Check the seasonal weather before you go. In November it is the build up to the wet so is very warm and very humid. Air con is an essential.Be aware that most of the iced coffee shops close after 4.30 to 5 p.mMind you there are lots of bars and eateries in Mitchell st after that time.
