Top Local Tips for Darwin
Wet Season If you do decide to travel in the wet season, then ensure you visit both Kakudu and Litchfield National Parks. Whilst the temperatures are around 35 degrees with 70% humidity, you get to see some fantastic waterfalls, a whole host of wildlife, an array of aboriginal artwork, stunning views of the escarpments and the wonderfully lush vegetation.
Kakadu Winery - certainly worth a visit Visited Kakadu Winery in Palmerston Industrial Estate, 20 min drives from Darwin central. It's famous for its mango wine and apple wine. Fred, who was attending to us, was very helpful and explained the different wine (over 10 types) that they made. The mango and Kakadu apple wine is good and the winery also sells South Australian wine and it's good value for money.
Evening markets and Aboriginal Fine Arts The evening markets down by the water are great. We walked from the Mirambeena, and it was a good distance, but one could easily catch a cab. A very large variety of food (mexican to vietnamese thai). Don't buy a didgeridoo there though. Go to Aboriginal Fine arts on the corner of Mitchell and Knuckey. The have a great selection at reasonable prices and provide you with information about the design and artist.
