Top Local Tips for Darwin
Be Careful Darwin can be a little bit rough late at night when the younger end have all drunk too much. There are lots of backpackers and loads of bars selling cheap booze, so the results are inevitable. Someone was stabbed when we were there so just be careful.
What to Do in Darwin. Things to Do: Inside Darwin. Darwin Crocodile Farm – A great way to see our mean nasty creatures. Better still; try the famous jumping crocodiles on the Adelaide River Queen Cruises. Aqua scene- is just a little walk along the promenade, which is open to all visitors. See hundreds of fish, which come into the shore to feed everyday. Times are limited to early morning and late afternoon. Mindil Beach Markets. – The markets are located on the waterfront and it is necessary do whilst visiting Darwin. The best time to experience these markets is on a Thursday night, which opens between Aprils to October 5- 10pm. Sunday markets are opened 4-9pm. Fannie Bay – This little spot is not on your travel books, but I loved this area as it has a wonderful large open lagoon (No Crocodiles or nasty creatures) and small sandy beaches to just relax, swim and chill out in the hot tropical temperatures. (A real little gem and perfect for families). Cullen Bay. – This is the new hip place /
Mindil Beach Markets at Sunset on Sunday Go then if it is on when you are there - April to October, not the other night (Thursday) when it is really busy. Sunday was busy enough for me. Great Asian takeaway food and wonderful relaxed crowd there to enjoy the scene and watch the sunset from the beach. There are taxis available most of the time to get back. It is a long way from the centre of Darwin so do not plan to walk (as I had planned).

Staff were efficient but friendly and co-operative and the accommodation with a choice of hotel rooms or serviced apartments, was good. clean and with all facilities. We did not eat at the hotel as there is a multitude of eating places close by including a cheap breakfast cafe right across from the rear entrance.
At the time of our visit there was building work going on next door which we had been warned about and which could be noisy if your room is on that side of the hotel. Best to check this out when booking.
All in all highly recommended.
