Top Local Tips for Pago Pago
Pago Pago: Does it have anything going for it? I ended up in Pago Pago for three days not for business and not by choice. First, it's not an attractive place, except for the harbor, bay and surrounding mountains. The town (it really isn't a city) is a conglomerate of villages and districts. The "beach" area is the most modern district, Utulei, with Sadie's By the Sea hotel, Lee Auditorium, the Governor's residence, and some nice walks along the bay. As you get into town (Fagatogo), there are older, more historice buildings (some in bad repair), along with the small Haydon Musieum (worth perhaps an hour of your time), the main market, the bus terminal, and not much else. Not even any interesting shopping. You can walk along the harbor and see all the fishing and cargo ships as you continue to Pago Pago village (the actual capital), where again, there's very little of interest. This area is, like the others, rather grungy, dirty, smelly and hot. I really wish I could say Pago Pago is interesting and lovely, but it really isn't
Game Fishing is a must A good location to travel to for the fishing fanatic in the family. Great opportunities for snorkelling.
