Three Names - and Bad Under Any of Them
This hotel CURRENTLY USES three names.
Ha Noi Riverside, New Stars and Ha Noi Lotus - the last one is actually on the hotel building, the others just to mislead people.
If you are not interested in buying their over-priced tours, they are not interested in you. They lie and mislead people both on hotel reservation web sites and in advertising.
Don't waste your time - there are many better places within walking distance.

Just dont!
Be very careful! Who ever thought this was a good and cheap hotel has been ripped off. Me and my mother went here for a relaxing stay. Everyone was really nice and helpful in the beginning and we booked trips through their travel agency. It was not until later we understood that they charged us more than the dubbel price on everything we booked. They relocated us and refused taking our phonecalls. Be careful with this hotel! Vietnam is such a wonderful place that people and hotels like this is just not worth the effort.

The Best Place to stay in Hanoi
Although in Hanoi there is a huge choice of places to stay and they all seem very similar, the Riverside was by far the best place to stay and the best place I stayed in the whole of Vietnam.
The rooms were immaculate and great value for money. The staff could not have been more helpful - Mr. Ben (the manager) was so accomodating for us and our friends who were not even staying there!
The location is perfect, so there really is nothing wrong with the place! They will even pick you up from the airport if you send them an email to ask.
I have recommeded the hotel to loads of people on my travels and would definitely recommed it to anyone reading this :)

Beware of this hotel - stay well away!!
Beware of this hotel. The staff (especially the hotel manager who goes by the name of Kien/Hieu) are running some sort of scam. When you check in, they will ask for your travel plans; how many days in Hanoi, what day trip you have booked etc. If you have not booked any trips, they do a hard sell for day and overnight trips (e.g to Halong Bay, Sapa, etc). Initially we thought they were being real helpful, but after shopping around other travel shops, found that they were grossly inflating the price of trips. We then booked with another travel agent for an overnight trip. When the hotel found out we were not taking up any trips with them, they informed us that they did not have room for us. During check out they then tried to charge us for things which were offered as complimentary when we booked the rooms (example trying to slap the USD 10 airport pick up fee). This hotel apparently has been re-named Hanoi Lotus Hotel, so take extra care when booking.

Hotel is okay, staff are terrible.
We are travelling on a 3 week tight schedule with treks and day trips so really needed to book our accomodation in advance. Hanoi Riverside came with several recommendations and we therefore paid a little more than usual for this 2* hotel. It is really the staff that have made our stay at Hanoi Riverside such a disaster. We have since met another two Australian couples who have had the same sort of experiences from Hanoi Riverside, one paid even more than we did through their travel agency and on arrival was told that the hotel was fully booked.
It does not have most of the services or amenities that it advertises. No hot water, no 24 hour reception, no bar, no guest kitchen, no internet in the rooms, tv's that dont work and of the 5 nights we have stayed there we were only given breakfast on one of the mornings - although bed and breakfast IS paid for.
The hotel is on Hang Can street in the Old Quarter.
I seriously would not recommend it, there are many other similar hotels i...Read more
