We had four memorable days in the Hanoi Elegance 2, from the moment of our arrival the staff were welcoming and facilitated any request made with great entusiasm. We had a staggered stay of 2 nights and then 1 night in Ha Long Bay returning for 2 further nights. The staff organised the trip to Ha Long looked after our luggage while away. One of our party had left an expensive ring in his room which was promptly returned safely when we returned from our stay in Ha Long, much to his relief. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough. Brilliant!!

The Hanoi Elegance Hotel #2 is a real gem in the city's Old Quarter. We stayed just one night after our earlier hotel had proven sub-standard, and the experience at HEH2 was so nice that we quickly made plans to return there after treks to Halong and Sapa. Anyway, here's why we are so positive on this hotel:
1. Kind, friendly, helpful staff. These were the most warm & genuine people we met during our entire 10-day trip thru Vietnam. And I'm not talking about just one person - the staff were all so nice. And attentive. (More below).
2. Very nice rooms. The rooms are modern and well appointed. Dark wood, beige walls. Every room has a computer with free internet access. Note: the bathroom was good but not great - so don't expect 5 stars.
3. Quiet. It really was an oasis of calm at night.
4. Breakfast. Perhaps we have lower expectations because we're comfortable doing the backpacker / guest house thing, but we loved the breakfast (included in the room rate) - you get a wide range of food and beverage choices, and a large fruit plate "dessert".
5. Personal attention. We bumped into one employee on the street, and even though she wasn't working (or in uniform), she said hello. Checking out after our first stay, several staff wished us wonderful trips to Halong and Sapa... because they were all attentive to such details. And when we returned from Sapa, arriving back into Hanoi at 5am after a night-time train journey, they welcomed us early in the morning, gave us a complementary breakfast, and apologized profusely about the fact that we wouldn't be able to check in to our room until 9am (something we thought was wonderful b/c the regular check-in time is hours later).
Note: HEH2 is not a budget hotel. We paid $40 the first night, which were told was an especially low price because of a last-minute cancellation, and we paid $50 for the second night. Both were for their 'Deluxe" rooms. The nearby Hanoi Elegance Hotel #1 has lower rates. To us it did not look quite as nice as HEH2; however other travelers told us that it was also clean, quiet and friendly.

I would definately stay at Elegance again. The rooms are modern and clean with a spacious bathroom. The rooms are a bit small but definately managable. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the Old Quarter (if you don't get lost!) but taxis are cheap so this isn't a big set-back. The hotel staff are very friendly and the breakfast is very good with a selection of fruit, yoghurt, omlettes, croissants, toast, fruit, traditional Vietnamese food, and pastries. One thing to note, if you are using the hotel's airport transfer do not pay the driver directly because you will be charged at the hotel when you check out.

My husband and I stayed at the Hanoi Elegance for about 10 days whilst based in Hanoi. We made 2 side trips to Halong Bay and Sapa and the bulk of our luggage was stored at the hotel for us which was much appreciated. We were very impressed by the great rooms which were comfortable and clean - and brilliantly cool in the heat !! The staff were unfailingly friendly and went out of their way to help and advise. Because we were such oldies they even called us `Mummy and Daddy"!
Aside from the mattresses, which were very firm, we absolutely loved our stay and are intending to return next year to further explore this lovely country. We will definitely stay at the Elegance again and are recommending it to anyone who is considering going to Hanoi. In fairness to the hotel, every other hotel we stayed in during our 3 weeks in Vietnam also had very firm mattresses.
Thanks to all the friendly staff and we look forward to seeing you next year.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in June this year. As I always do, I reviewed hotels on TripAdvisor in order to decide where to stay. All reviews for Hanoi Elegance 2 were positive and I am writing to add to that. This hotel provides exceptional service. I think its listed as a 2 or 3 star hotel but know that as a patron here, you are treated to 5 star service from their staff. Prior to travelling to Vietnam I needed visas for there and for Cambodia. I was going to do the Cambodian e-visa online but couldnt scan photo image. When we found ourselves in Beijing running out of time before leaving for Vietnam and still no visa, I thought we could either go to Vietnamese embassy in Beijing or ask hotel Hanoi for advice, I took a chance and emailed the hotel manager Mr Van Dam. He could not have been more helpful or attentive or reassuring. He said they would gladly arrange for the visas in timely fashion--we're talking about a week's time--and for a very reasonable fee. We gladly paid the fee and able to print out the visas to present at Hanoi airport. We had absolutely no problem. Once at hotel, the staff were extremely courteous, patient and ready to cater to our every request. Our friends had highly recommended we do ginger junk cruise on Halong bay and when I mentioned to Mr Van Dam prior to our arrival there if he could advise me on particular tour agency, he told me he could also arrange that--and the price was way better than any other website for these cruises. When we needed American dollars, they gladly provided the exchange for nominal fee but given how difficult it is to find American dollars in Asia, we were thrilled they could help us. Since my husband and I were travelling for 3 months and had lots of bags with us, the hotel held our bags for us while we went on cruise and upon our return, had our bags and room waiting for us. The breakfast is small and nothing to rave about; you're better off doing breakfast across the street at tamarind cafe which had fantastic meals. The hotel recommended Little Hanoi for great inexpensive and authentic meals and they were so right. By far, it was the most authentic tasty meals on our trip. The lake and its charming little cafes were nearby as were other tourist sites.
The hotel rooms were pretty spacious, your basic toiletries were provided although I didnt use them. While AC took a while to cool down the room, it made the room much more comfortable and a great escape from the searing heat outside. The 2nd hotel room they put us in had balcony facing the bustling noisy street. I thought noise would be issue at night but although its heavily congested street, at night time, the noise isnt as bad and we were able to sleep well thru the night. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Hanoi.

Nice the place. A wee bit pushy on taking their tours, but this seems to be par for the course in this part of the city. Breakfast is baguette and coffee. Could be better.

We stayed there for 2nights. Room is too expensive, and they overcharged me for the Halong Bay Trip.
