Top Local Tips for Hanoi

Shopping Dont be surprised that prices in the Old Quarter street shops are jacked-up tourist rates. Even with haggling, the price tags' definitely marked up. If you're looking for gifts like Vietnamese coffee, biscuits and silk pouches, an extremely cheap place to stock up is the supermarket located in Parkson Mall opposite Hanoi Airport. Prices inside the airport are almost 5 times the street rate and are in USD.

Lenin Park for those who want to see the real hanoi, take a cab down to Lenin Park at either 5am or 5pm and watch the locals going about their daily excercises, its well worth it and you can even join in.

Dont take an "official" taxi at the airport To or from the airport should only cost $15 or so. Get either Taxi Noi Bai (Noi Bai is the actual name of Hanoi airort) or Airport Taxi from the airport. Agree a price when getting in.To the airport get your hotel to call the above companies or ring them yourself.There are too many drivers at the airport who will hassle you, claiming to be official taxis but will either cheat you or will be dangerous drivers.These two companies are the most reliable and honest in Hanoi and travellers should use them whenever possible.
