| I really enjoyed my stay at Le Meridien Phuket. I stayed for 4 days at this wonderful hotel in Phuket, that is locatd so centrally to Patong town. Being welcomed with a cold towel and chilled drink along with the many warm smiles from the friendly and helpful staff made me forget about the humidity. I stayed in the junior suite which looked over their huge pools onto the beach, and had a wonderful basket of local fruits in my room everyday. Eating at the hotel at one of their 5 restaurants is adequate. Breakfast is ok, but the hot food like the bacon and sausages gets cold, my advice is to bring it round to the omelette booth and ask them to throw it back on the hotplace for a couple of minutes which they are happy to oblige. Being Australian, I love the beach and Le Meridien BY FAR has the BEST beach of all the other hotels I have stayed at, clear water, some waves and it's very private and a few minutes walk from the room. The baby elephant should be a blast with the kids and adults alike. The woodfire pizzas are one of the best I have tasted and reasonably priced as well, dinner at the Italian restaurant is cosy, intimate and very good. The Japanese restaurant is acceptable as well as the Thai restaurant, but my recommendation is the Italian for dinner. Getting to town is easy just by walking up the road to get a "tuk tuk" which you should bargain down to a 100baht or less, which is about A$3, so a tip is always appreciated form them. Patong nite life is a must, but don't play connect four with the girls there unless you expect to get beaten, badly. Beers are cheap and shopping good. The shop keepers are more agressive nowadays and most prices are translated to US$, which is good at the moment because it's falling. A massage at Le Meridien's beach by the beach ladies will cost about 400baht an hour, which is cheap, but I recommend the spa for a truely relaxing time and the hour specials are a great unwind after a taxing day shoping. Phuket Fantasea is a must see as well as a day golfing at the Blue Canyon Golf course. Also beware of hiring bikes and jetskis, they are fun but are run by the local mafia which is not a problem unless there is an accident. But back to the hotel, it is a perfect jewel in Phuket and the manager said they were redoing their rooms, which will make it a seriously perfect beach holiday for a weekend getaway or the whole family. |
