| Good value for money but .... |
| I can't deny that the Laluna was excellent value for money. The rooms were large though somewhat featureless and the pool and grounds amazing.
However, I would certainly query it's 4* status due to the lack of basic facilities, eg there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom and the minibar consisted of a couple of bottles of water, a soft drink and a chocolate bar. The sunbeds around the pool were large teak but no cushions were provided making them very uncomfortable for more than 10 minutes or so, and no pool towels were provided.
The breakfast was truly awful. Teas and coffees were self-service and provided in plastic cups. The bread (for toast) was white only and sweet! The cooked foods were the worst being served at a lukewarm temperature. Particularly bad were the sausages (boiled frankfurters), still soaking in water and the ham also soaking in water. Unfortunately, the hotel isn't within walking distance of any other restaurants where you can pick up an alternative breakfast.
The bar doesn't appear to open in the evenings and the bars nearby seems to serve only beer or whisky.
We chose to upgrade to a superior room but the only difference was that they were located poolside - the size and quality of the rooms was just the same as the standard accommodation but with bathroom amenities (though no face flannels) and very scratchy bathrobes.
The staff were OK though pretty indifferent compared to other 4* hotels in Thailand.
The basics are all there - it just needs those little homely extras to bring it up to standard. |
