| Lovely location, most enjoyable stay, |
|
We (two) stayed at Chiang Dao Nest 2 for five days in February 2007, interrupted only by a 3 days / 2 nights rafting trekking tour that we had booked from Stuart, owner and manager of Chiang Dao Nest.
We enjoyed our stay in Nest 2 very much: it is a lovely location, just outside of the small village. The cabins are at a basic but fully satisfactory level, being equipped with a clean, large bed, and with a (simple) bathroom with western toilet and a shower with hot running water. The air temperatures at night were just about fine in the nights, so that we did not miss an AC system.
Sitting on the small terrace of the cabin or on the terrace of the small restaurant, one would overlook the nicely planted garden space in between the cabins, and look onto the flanks of the high rising mountains in maybe 500 m distance.
We loved the Thai food of Nest 2, that was available at reasonable prices, and we enjoyed the friendliness of Ooo (the managing lady) and of the other girls of her s... Read more |

| Absolute Highlight of our trip |
|
We had the most wonderful time at Chiang Dao Nest. Wicha especially made us feel really at home, and the kids loved playing with Joseph.
The food at both Nest 1 (Western) & Nest 2 (Thai) was excellent. Wicha's gourmet restaurant is a fraction of the price we normally pay at home, and indeed similar restaurants we tried in Bangkok, and the quality equals some of the finest restaurants we have ever frequented.
The kids loved all the activities in the area
The setting is also idyllic. Modest but clean rooms were all that was needed in this setting.
Recommended unreservedly.

| Beautiful but bizarre |
|
We were due to stay here for 5 nights but, with limited time on our hands, changed our booking twice. When we got there the owners were not pleased about this and made us feel extremely unwelcome (to the extent that we considered leaving the same night, but instead left first thing the next morning). On the positive, the setting of this place is beautiful, the bungalows are basic but very pleasant, and I can understand why other reviews have been good. However, if you plan eating there, the food is good but not for budget travellers. A beer and main course each made for the most expensive meal we had anywhere in Thailand (it was good but not that good). We felt they should make the bungalows a little pricier instead to reflect the likely cost of a stay there (no fridges in the rooms for your own food). I felt very let down that the only unfriendliness we experienced in our 3 weeks in Thailand was from one of my own countrymen and his wife (joint English / Thai owner). Unfortunately, th...
