Before you read this review, you should know where I am coming from. I'd like to start off by saying that I have been to Bangkok many times and have probably stayed in 10 hotels there. The Royal Orchid, as a hotel, is excellent. The rooms are all facing the river and have fine views. All other services are also first rate. Now the negatives. My biggest complaint about the hotel is its location. Yes, it's on the river and has great views, but so are other hotels. The problem with its location is that it is not convient to anything except an overpriced antiques mall (I think called The Riverwalk). Other than that, you have to either take a taxi or walk a great distance to go anywhere...and Bangkok can get very hot. The skytrain, which I absolutly love, is not close by. It is a fifteen to twenty minute walk away. To me, that's a huge drawback. Other than that, the hotel is an excellent value, especially if you book it on the web.
