I have stayed at the GP on many occasions over the past five years. I know of many other frequent visitors who also regularly stay there. The prices are good for the quality rooms provided. You can book on-line with no up-front payment And the on-line rates are the best deal you can get, all those pre-paid third party sites cannot get a cheaper deal. I once had a similar booking problem, despite a three month advance booking request, the room type was unavailable, so I was upgraded.

Don't go to the grand president

Although the rooms might be nice, I definitely don't recommend the place. The staff is unfriendly and cheats where ever they can. I booked a suite for a week end and paid in advance THB 5000 per night. When I arrived they put me in a normal room (I know it, because I was there before) without mentioning why. I complained and they told me, that all suites are fully booked so only the normal room is available. Of course, they was no refund from the hotel and on the final check out, they even put the breakfast on the bill again (which was part of the package). When I complained again, they threatened me to call the police and run through the whole trouble with interrogations and so on. Since I had a flight to catch, I did give in and paid. Travelers, believe me, you will not be happy in this place - mind it!!!
