My wife and I stumbled across the Pension Subaru when we were rescued (sort of) from the end of the pier in Motomachi Port. The owners, Akihiko and Yaeko, speak just enough English to be helpful, and the feel is very friendly and personal. Yaeko is an amazing cook, and the room rate includes breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is served in the garden. Dinner was a ten course Japanese feast that was one of the highlights of our trip. There are two Onsen (hot spring baths) just afive minute walk away. The smaller Onsen with the wooden structure is great and draws a colorful local crowd each evening. If you go to Oshima, the hike up Mt. Mihara is nice, but take a pass on a trip to Habu. It's a ghost town.
