Surprise charges & unhelpful staff

Although this was a fabulous hotel, my boyfriend and I were surprised to find that we were shockingly overcharged by the hotel. We were quoted rates in U.S. dollars for both nights at $300 & $400, respectively. We were never given a rate in rupees nor were we ever told that the price in U.S. dollars would in fact be much higher if we actually paid in U.S. dollars and not in rupees. In addition, we were never told that we were getting the rooms at a "discounted rate" and that we would actually be taxed at a $475 rate per night. We have lodged complaints with the hotel and they have ignored our request for an explanation of why we were quoted a price in U.S. dollars ($700 plus tax = $787.50) and in fact charged $908. Our experience at this wonderful hotel has been soured by this "unwestern" way of doing business - quoting one price and charging another without any explanation.

The hotel lives up to its name in atmosphere and location, but please why wanting to charge 20 dollar per head to eat in the restaurant when you are not a guest, especially at a time when all your restaurants had nobody in them ... that is bad business sense, but also gave us the impression of total snottyness... we were actually considering staying there in the future ... no need to say, we will not bother, the food charge in imperial is already at the top end of whatever Delhi has to offer ... anyway very bitter/nasty experience ... but then we have the choice to determine never to spend a single dollar ever ... lets hope for the imperial they clean up that act in term of customer relations for potential future customers fast !!!
Grand hotel let down by overconfidence

This is a grand hotel, elegant and with outstanding public spaces. The rooms are good but would benefit from some further attention. This hotel has enjoyed poll position in New Delhi for some years. I have stayed here on six occasions, but the last stay was unsatisfactory. Misunderstandings over bookings were badly handled in my opinion and in, my view; this may reflect a degree of overconfidence, given the pre-eminence of the Imperial, reflected in what I consider to be deficiencies in customer relations.
