Pure suffering. I was put up in super deluxe room and trust me when I say that the room finished as it started. It was so small that when we put our baggage down there was no place for us. They don't have running hot water, A/c was shut off intentionally while we were in the room. Cleanliness was miserable. They even put up notices that they are not responsible for any theft by their staff in the hotel, that was very comforting to stay there. Don't stay here if it costs a bit more, choose another place.

I have a completely different opinion about this lovely hotel.I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in a super Deluxe room. The room given was very clean. The ceilings had beautiful work of some traditional paintings. The decoration was very impressive. The staff was very nice and courteous. The receptionists were very kind. The food was very well prepared and the best part of their cuisine is their traditional Rajasthani specialities. The breakfast was good and hot. Any one visiting this property should see their beautiful roof top. The music and puppet show was impressive. I feel I had good value for my money.

I really enjoyed being at this hotel. I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. It is a very charming place. The hotel is at good location. The main city is just 10 minutes away from this hotel. The owner is a women and was very helpful. The other staff was also friendly and smiling. The rooms were quiet, neat, well airconditioned and had a traditional interior with ethnic furniture set up . The restaurant food is nicest I have so far tasted in India. A good tip will be to Try their beautiful roof top puppet shows , ayurvedic massages and Yoga sessions. I will recommend this hotel to anyone who plans to visit Jaipur in mid segment hotels. Its a good value for the money. I hope to return myself at some time in future to this charming hotel.

This is by far the cleanest place I have stayed in on my trip to India. Easily up to European standards. The rooms are comfortable and airconditioned with Rajput furniture and floral paintings on the walls and ceilings. The food on room service was good and the staff charming and helpful. Though I went there because I was booking late, it was nevertheless a good place to stay.

Hotel From Hell

My wife and I had visited this hotel in Jaipur in April 2006. We had a reasonably comfortable stay, no incidents. When we got married in December, we decided to visit Jaipur again, along with my parents and her mom, for old times sake. This time, we saw this hotel and its owners for what they truly were – plain bad. Things started out pretty good when we arrived. The rooms were clean and things went fine for the first day. Then, things started to erode. The spiral into hell started with the hotel cab driver we hired for the day. He was working out well, until the end of the day approached. We had tipped him pretty well throughout the day, but obviously it wasn’t enough. Since my wife is Indian and we have both been to Jaipur before, we knew exactly where we wanted to take our family. We told him we didn’t want to go to this store he wanted to take us to, as we knew it was fairly far, and it was already 6 PM. He still insisted the store was close by and took us there anyway. As we already knew, the store was very very far away. On the way back to the hotel, he found the most convoluted route insisting it was short (even though we knew the main road back), just to get some overtime and extra kilometers for more money, despite the tips we gave him in the day. We didn’t pay the overtime after my wife complained to the hotel (their English is extremely limited, even though they get international tourists, so it was good two of our group are fluent in Hindi). That night, we ate in the hotel’s restaurant – my wife and I ordered a cheese and mushroom pizza, while our folks ordered standard Indian fair. We had both had the same food when we were at the hotel in April. But this night, my wife and I became incredibly sick. We spent the night suffering from severe food poisoning – something in the pizza, possibly the mushrooms made us sick. Let me specify that we are both fond of mushrooms, young, healthy, and have no active food allergies. And during the day, all of us, including our much elder folks had all eaten at MacDonalds. None of them got sick. It couldn’t be that we were not accustomed to Indian food – my wife is an Indian (born and brought up in Delhi) and I’m a foreigner, yet, both of us suffered exactly the same way from the hotel pizza. Now comes the worst part of the experience. That night, my wife phoned down to reception to tell them that we were violently ill, and that we needed something to drink. They never offered to tell us they had a doctor on call or even bother to come up and check on two guests. When the morning came around, we were both severely dehydrated and weakened and sick. Still throwing up, and feeling generally nauseated, after numerous calls to the hotel owner my wife found out they had a doctor on call. He was called, and arrived several hours later. In the meantime, the hotel offered to pay for anything that we required, since they knew it was food at their place that had made us so ill. But, with every cup of tea or water or lemonade, the bills kept on coming, and we kept sending them back down to reception. When my wife called the hotel owner, the lady in question, actually asked my wife to come down to her office and speak. This after my wife just finished telling her that we had been seriously ill the entire night and were very weak. Then, the doctor showed up. He asked some questions, took my blood pressure, etc, and did the same with my wife. His brilliant diagnosis – you’re dehydrated. After a whole night of diarrhea and vomiting, you bet we are! This doctor was incredibly incompetent. He didn’t take a history. He never asked about what we ate. Later on we found out he was related to the hotel owners. The doctor told us we needed to be hospitalized (Of course it was convenient that he had his own hospital minutes from the hotel). Minutes after he left, my wife gets a call from some small, local company selling health insurance. Coincidence, I think not! Then, we get a call from the owners of the hotel, asking us our status and when we’re going to check out, because they have people they need to put in that room. Never once did the hotel staff or owners come up to show any sort of common human compassion to us, or for that matter, concern that their food had made us ill. They never once admitted it, and instead suggested we may have been irresponsible in our eating. Their logic was that they had served 3 mushroom and cheese pizzas the night before, and we had eaten 2 of those, and were sick. The third person who took that pizza wasn’t ill, so obviously we were just sick with something else. Ofcourse the logic that majority of the people were ill was not something they were willing to consider. Basically just about anything to wash their hands off this inconvenient little problem and us. Then, the F&B manager comes up. Apparently he’s a doctor (He thought I didn’t look too sick) and he started verbally abusing my wife and her mother (women in general are not respected in Jaipur). My wife told him to leave, using some colorful language. When she called the owners to complain, she was asked to come down to their office again. My wife and her mother went down to try and reason with the owners of the hotel (they were too busy to come up, even though the hotel is tiny, and we were both very weak). They were both treated very badly, and with a coldness we had not thought possible. The hotel owners, 2 sisters by the names Meghna and Surbhi, were unhelpful, unwilling to accept responsibility, and their only concern was us vacating the rooms. It was then that we decided that we had to leave that place as soon as possible. We informed the owners of the hotel that we will check out, but we need some assistance. Sure, they will assist us, for a fee. Did I mention, we had to pay for the doctor too? They wanted us to pay them commissions for helping us get tickets. My wife’s mother went and made the arrangements, running around town canceling bus tickets and getting train tickets. After shouting and arguing with them, we finally managed to get our things together and get out of the hell hole that was Sarang Palace. We would like to warn all travelers to not risk going to this hotel. Minor incidents happen with food all the time even at the 5 star chains. The difference is accepting responsibility for it, and making amends or just helping take care of guests. This hotel was the most inhospitable place we could’ve stayed at, and if it hadn’t been for the rest of our family, we know things could’ve turned out much worse for us. So stay anywhere else, but stay here at your own risk.
