Dingy rooms -Great Food

After a 2.5 hr bumpy ride(bad roads) to the Elgin from Bagdogra we were a bit disappointed to see the small dingy rooms with stale linen. The 14 inches TV in the room was too small with grainy pics. The best part of the stay was the delicious food and smiling staff. We were lucky to have chosen the Innova tranport package which made the ride through the bumpy roads reasonably comfortable.

An Oasis Of Green In Darjeeling

I recently stayed at the Elgin, Darjeeling and I recommend it to everyone who wants to be part of an ethereal experience amongst nature. Nestled among the darjeeling hills, this hotel is a treasure trove of lush landscapes, impeccable service and scrumptious cuisine. It was my first trip to this part of India and I couldn't have selected a better hotel to play a host to my blissful experience. The minute you check it, you can feel the warmth of the hospitality department. The entire staff makes you feel like royalty and I must also mention that this hotel houses a celebrity, Don the St Bernard, who has won several competitions in the area. Being a dog lover, it was an abosolute treat to spend time with him. I couldn't believe that any place in this world was meant to be so beautiful. It was such a memorable parting gift, that it has been forever etched in my heart as a hotel which is capable of allowing you to embark on a beautiful fantasy and makes you never want to check out. All I can do is share this wonderful experience with fellow travellers, as such beauty and quality is meant to be enjoyed by all!

One of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. I enjoyed the hospitality. I would have no hesitation in recommending the place to my friends. Keep it up. My special thanks to Vasudev who looked after the culinary aspects.

Unpleasing staffs, not even smiling. Dirty and Yellow bed/furnishings. Hard bed, Not even a good double bed. Crapped Hotel. Food, same menu everyday. Worst is, charging too much for every domestic service, Sightseeing and even drinks.

Best night's sleep in 2 months in India

I decided to stay at the Elgin on my last night in India as a spurge. It was well worth it. Attentive staff, comfortable accommodations, extra heater in room (it was cold in March). Plentiful hot water, Good bed with a warm quilt. That night they had a traditional English dinner it was too rich for me, but then I was well acclamated to eating Indian and Tibetan food. the meals at 1000rs extra per meal for dinner and breakfast was overpriced and the breakfast was later than promised. That is my only complaint. For a Western who wanted Western food, I'm sure it would be welcome.
