I visited Chennai with my wife and had booked at The New Woodlands Hotel. I had seen it on the net and made my choice. This is my view on the place.
The reception staff: Polite,fairly effecient.
The other staff: Polite, willing to help.
The rooms: Spacious, pretty clean especially the bathrooms. The problems in the room are:
1.The TV is too far from the bed, also lacks basic channels.
2.The floor could use a change of tiles to look brighter.
3.The sheets could be of better quality. 4.The air conditioner needs a better regulator in the room.
The rates:Very reasonable for what u get.
The food:Very tasty but maybe a tad over-priced.
Overall:Acceptable if u want a clean, simple room with no frills.

I loved new woodlands
I stayed at the new woodlands from Oct 8th 2006 to Oct 13 2006. The rooms are spotless but simple by North American/European stands. I had a delux room for R1300 plus tax. The room had AC cable TV and a mini fridge. The restaurants are not to be missed great and cheap.
Note: all restaurants at this hotel are veg.
only. This hotel caters to an indian clientel. If you want everything to be just like back home this may not be the hotel for you. But if you want to really experience India then this is a great hotel. Location is good its about a 20 min walk to marina beach. there are plenty of bank machines in the area. Also a supermarket just a block away.
I plan to go back to Chennai next year and I be staying at the New Woodlands.
