Top Local Tips for Beijing

Must see Great Wall and Forbidden City Great Wall is about 1-1.5 hours outside Beijing, leave yourself at least 1.5 hours there (to get cable car up, walk around, and get down again). Give yourself at least 1.5 hours in the Forbidden City...it's fairly large and great to see with lots of time. It closes at 4:30pm, and if you go out the exit on the Tianament Square side, you can see the lowering of the flag/changing of guards at 4:30-5pm.

Always used metered cabs We were approached by a women who had an official looking badge at the airport offering taxi service to the hotel. She directed us to her taxi, quite a ways from the other taxis and took us to the hotel. She did not use a meter. When we arrived at our hotel, we were told the price was 425 yuan if we wanted a receipt and 300 if we didn't. Of course, we took the lower price. Later, we found out the normal amount from the airpor to the hotel is 150 yuan.

The Legend of Kungfu This is a beautifuly preformed show. Not what I thought it would be. Was pleasantly surprised.
