great gem in Kampala - Cassia Lodge We have been staying the last three days at the Cassia Lodge on Buziga Hill in Kampala. It has, bar none, been the best hotel experience we've ever had. It's a new lodge sitting on a hill overlooking Lake Victoria. There is a pool on the edge looking over the lake. It's built in true African style and has such a strong sense of character and uniqueness. There are big round openings showing the view of the city and lake throughout the complex and every room faces the lake. THe view is simply breathtaking and I need to pause every time I pass it. The service has been outstanding and we are especially impressed with the food. It's the best local African food I have had on this continent. My partner and I were especially enamored when we watched the chef duck out of the kitchen and pick some green onions in the garden, and 20 minutes later we were tasting an incredibly aromatic meal seasoned with fresh green onions. It's been good value as well; we are paying $120/night for a spectacular room, gorgeous bathroom, all usual amenities. Bar and restaurant overlook the city and lake view and drinking wine with a fresh whole talipia fish caught in the lake is an unforgettable experience. Highly, highly recommend this joint. We are shaking our heads at the more expensive resorts we have stayed at and not been nearly as satisfied.

Use only meter taxi! Majority taxi transportation in Kampala are using very old sedans without meter charge, if you happened to be end up with this kind of transportation, do bargain and get the deal rate before you jump in the car! dont epxect for air condition or clean seats. There is new meter taxi in Kampala called Yellow Taxi. Design and color similar to NYC taxies. The fare is quite reasonable, with nice and clean car and important, Air conditioned.
