Fab Holiday

from Jansi
Fantastic Holiday, we where welcomed by friendly staff (two kids, two adults) and our luggage was taken up to a large air conditioned room, with balcony (controlable air conditioning), no drinks facilities, but a fairly good little fridge. Bath Towels were changed everyday. The pools where fantastic and clean and the staff helpful, mealtimes a bit frantic as for queing for dishes, but my life, what a choice of food, vast amounts of anything you could want, fresh fruits and plenty of wine. The waiters where wonderful and after getting used too the amount of people it was a pleasure to have dinner and breakfast... The kids club, really consists of a disco on the night 8.30pm for half an hour and its followed by a shockingly poor caberet show everynight but hay it's that poor its funny.....

Drinks are expensive in the hotel, water especially, get your water from the supermarket just outside the hotel, as you can get four bottles, too their one in price, works out a lot, as you need loads of water as its hot hot hot!!!!! The beach on the hotel is also wonderful clean and beautifull with a lot of water sports for the brave !! Be warned every little bit of friendliness from a Tunisian needs a tip, they expect it, tip to take a photo of a persons camel, tip to fetch a drink, tip tip tip.... be warned with the shopkeepers who beg you for business, make eye contact and they won't leave you alone, just say no thanks!! But thankfully theres only two salesmen I really spotted in the hotel itself, selling quad bike rides and a boat trip !!!!....... The hotel has a beach Party every Friday, get tickets !!! its was a fantastic night!!! My kids cried when we had to come home (says it all) it was a great holiday, just be careful with the local tunisians when selling there wears..... just say no xx

We love this hotel from all aspects

We stayed once again in this beautiful hotel during our second visit to Tunisia between 1 and 8 July 2006. The club/village-type atmosphere is unbelievable with all people from many countries mixing together. This time we also stayed in a bungalow facing a large rectangular lawn comprising eight very long palm trees forming a sort of peaceful square at the centre of this fantastic medina-designed bungalow area. The animation team was once again formidable, especially Joseph, Tarek, Mo Mo, Fu Fu and Nadia who are really nice, friendly and very good dancers. The meals are fantastic with very wide choice as well as free unlimited wine, soft drinks and water. The hotel beach is very beautiful and we really enjoyed our Monday barbecue night with live music and a very romantic atmosphere. The hotel disco as well as the nearby (walking distance) El Mouradi Palace and Red Iguana discos (all free) are all highly enjoyable nightclubs especially for making new friends. The supermarket facing the hotel is extremely practical having good prices and remaining open up to 1.00am. This time we took two one-and-half-hours quad-biking sessions from Habib, just in front of the hotel. The off-road conditions around the many mature olive trees are really enjoyable. This year we also revisited and enjoyed Sousse medina, Hammamet aquapark as well as the folkloric and berberic night with some sexy belly dancers. Finally we would like to thank our friend Ramzi who is the Tunisian coordinator for Maltese tourists at the hotel. We will certainly choose this hotel's bungalows for our third visit to Tunisia. Hope to meet you at the Sol Club Kantaoui to enjoy our holiday together. Best wishes from Malta.

A good break at Sol Club Kanaoui

from A TripAdvisor Member
My partner and I return a week ago from Sol El Kantaoui. We stayed for a week and had a lovely time. The staff is friendly and willing to help, answering any questions we had. There was a bit of a language barrier as we are from London and don't speak French or Arabic but we muddled through; saying that the majority of the staff spoke English well enough. On our first night we noticed water leaking from the ceiling (i think it was the air conditioning), we called reception and they said they would move us in the morning. We went to the reception the next morning but they said all the rooms were full. We were persistent and asked for the manager...and what do you know, a room became available and we moved in by noon. The rest of our stay was relaxing, just what we wanted.
Food: although breakfast was not to our liking we found some of it OK and stuck to what was familiar. Dinner on the other hand was very good, lots to choose from and tasty. There are a couple of restaurants to choose from other than the main dinning hall serving pizzas, burgers, salads, pasta dishes etc so there’s lots to choose from for lunch if you are staying half board.

Quick tip: The drinks are not expensive compared to London prices (unless you want diet coke). However, if you venture outside the hotel gate to the "shopping centre" snacks, water and other drinks are 3 times cheaper.

The entertainment was just ok, great if you have kids, it's something to keep them occupied but we were not into it. Most guests seemed to like it though. There's also a disco (typical European style) that starts at 11pm if you are not ready to hit the sack.

Overall I would recommend this hotel but I think a week is enough. Hope this helps

Excellent hotel food

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed for two weeks with three kids under 10 years. Food and services were excellent.
Entertainment at night was also very professional and they were very good getting audience participation. One thing to watch out for, if anyone in the hotel offers you a free courtesy trip to see people weaving clothes and carpets, avoid it. We took this trip and ended up in a carpet shop with tremendous pressure put on us to buy a carpet for over
1000 euro. After one and a half hours the youngest child became very agitated with the hassle and we had to barge our way out of the shop.

Sol clubKantaoui BRILLIANT HOLIDAY!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My friend and I have only been back in England a week and we both wish we had booked for 2 weeks not one. We booked on an allocation on arrival basis so didnt know in advance which hotel we were going to but were assured it would be in Port El Kantaoui and were a bit worried when we read the reports about being hassled especially as we are both middle aged, blonde ladies and apparently targets for Tunisian males! We went into Port El Kantaoui and Sousse on our own and we were asked politely to visit shops and all it took was a polite firm no with a smile and we were left alone.

The Sol Club Kantaoui was wonderful, our flight was on time, the airport quicker than most both outgoing and incoming and when we arrived at the hotel we were welcomed with a free cocktail, checked in within minutes and a lovely bellboy took us to our room which was spotless, and wonderful. We had a suite with a sea view with 2 double beds, a single and a sofa. The bathroom was lovely with a bath and shower and we had a seperate dressing area with loads of wardrobe space.

There was entertainment on every night and the reps cabaret night in Sousse is well worth the £10 it cost. The only complaint I have is that there was no karaoke because I love it! The pools were wonderful and we sampled the beauty parlour and the massage which were both reasonably priced and the staff very able and friendly.

The food was better than I have had in many 5 star hotels it was always piping hot (a welcome change) and very varied, there many types of vegetables were always perfectly cooked and as I teach healthy cookery it takes a lot to keep me happy and you could eat very healthily if you wanted to (plenty of delicious puddings too). The only thing we saw any queues for were the fried eggs! I would have liked to have seen more fruit though.

The staff from the bellboys, cleaners, right up to the managers were lovely and couldnt do enough for you and always said hello and smiled. The waiters and entertainment staff were excellent and made you feel as though you were welcome all the time. The disco was a real change from the usual dark dingy places it was more like a cabaret bar with plush seating and it was very clean and comfortable.

I went running on the beach quite early and it was very clean, the sand was white and the sea lovely. We never felt threatened at any time night or day and we have promised we will go back to the same hotel because we enjoyed it so much.

Loved it!

We were a group of 4 early 20 year olds with a limited budget and happened to get this place on an allocation on arrival basis. We arrived very early in the morning (around 03:30) and had a little difficulty finding the room as the porter was very busy delivering luggage to all the guests arriving with us. However, we found the rooms and were very surprised to see how large they were. I've read reviews saying the decor was dated, but if you are going get out of your room to see the towns and check out the watersports, then decor doesn't matter! The rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towels and bedding, with our night clothes even arranged like butterflies on our bed !

The staff were great and very helpful, even coming to say hello if they saw us out and about (we knew they were genuinely from our hotel, not scam artists like some others). We got to be friends with a few of the reps and they recommended some good night spots (best are Red Iguana not far from hotel and Maracana in Sousse). Clubs get lively around midnight so it's best to stay and watch the nightly show in the "discotheque" for some random fun (yes, mainly in french but you get the gist of it all) and then head out. When out at one bar, some of the staff recognised us and we had a great time with them.

Hotel food was good, no stomach upsets and a variety of dishes. Yes you have to queue but you can usually suss out when the restaurant gets quieter.

We found that if the taxi tried to overcharge us, we asked for a ride on the meter, or walked towards another car.

Sousse was interesting and busy. The medina was fun, but watch out for some comments. They could be funny but sometimes a bit offensive. Best to just ignore them as they are most likely trying to suss out where you are from so they can talk to you more and get you in their shops! Try to get to the Soula centre at the bottom of the hill before going into the medina, to get some price ideas. Don't be afraid to haggle!! We went around just to look around on one day and then went shopping on another.

Overall, it was a great holiday and i'd recommend it to anyone of any age!

We had so much fun

from Lucy2073
We have recently returned from this holiday and what a pleasant surprise it was. The Hotel was great. Something for everybody. Plenty for the chidren to do who i might add cried when we were leaving because they had had such a wonderful time. The hotel room was spacious and cleaned daily. There were areas that was tired and maybe did need updating, but i can honestly say nothing that was any cause for concern. The staff was friendly, helpful and pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. The food was superb. A good selection to satisfy all. There was a large Amway convention taking place whilst we were there, which made the dining times a little hectic, but the staff coped very well and the standards remained in the restaurant. There are 4 outdoor pools, which were too cold (brrrrrrrrrrr!!) in April, but we used the indoor heated pool. The beach is one of the prettiest beaches I have seen and the hotel is situated directly on the beach, with plenty of water sports. Overall it is excellent value for money and we will definately book again.

well worth the silly amount we payed.....

from mj2373
Well.. We went with another couple who sort of enjoy the other side of the coin to us.. we are adventurous and sporty they are a find a bed and lay on it types. Needless to say we were all very happy with our stay. Rooms were dated but VERY clean and without fail cleaned everyday. As we discused with other ppl in the hotel we were pleased to find that the maids made an effort with all the rooms to make them look great for your return after a long day sunning on the clean beach. Yes we had to pay for the beach beds but at £50p per day they were clean every morning. 5 min walk down the beach was every water sport you would ever need and you could do all 5-6 activities for under £40.00 inc jet-skis, para-gliding etc..Across the road was a great mini-market selling everything you will ever need for a holiday, and the adventure area with the Quads for hire.. we went twice the 1st time for a slow sight-seeing trip which was great fun and worth the £9.00 for a couple hrs.. The next day 2 of us went with others from the hotel on a trip pre-arranged by us with the owner which we called the X-trip, again over 2 hrs long but this time going flat out, over designed quad tracks with jumps, hills, tight bends etc and still only £9. Food was great and plenty for everyone. My advice is drink the local bottle beer, cheaper and better then the draft beer. The port was a slow 20 min walk and a great place to waist 2-3hrs on an evening. Get ready to say no to the constant banter from the shop owners and be ready to bargain hard! they will crumble. Gold is cheap and branded goods at half the price. We visited the steak house in MONASTIR, steaks the size of a cow and a great atmosphere with english entertainment. Yellow Taxis are old and the drivers older but only £8 from the airport to hotel for 4 in 20 mins, the transfer bus is free but takes 90 mins to do multi-drop your call!!! we also booked a merc taxi for a full day (8hrs) and was charged £60, the driver was great and had plenty to say about all the spots he took us to, NO long bus trips costing 2-3 times more, and we were able to come and go as WE liked, this included a trip to sousse 85miles away. We went 3-4 weeks after end of season and the hotel was still very much alive but not busy, entertainment was a bit harsh as not alot of english, but we on holiday so didnt really care. 1 english tv channel and it was news24. If you have kids take a mini dvd player as we did. So in a nutshell clean, fun, great staff and at a bargain price most of the time... what more can you ask for.

Better than we expected

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a huge hotel with very good facilities ideal for families seeking spring or autumn sunshine. The pools are excellent and well-maintained, and the beach, which is adjacent to the hotel, is also very clean and pleasant with fine soft sand. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food in the buffet-style restaurant is very edible and hygienic (no tummy upsets), although perhaps a little bland. The room we were given was excellent, with a sea view, ten or twelve channels on the tv and plenty of space to move around. The maids, however, could not understand any requests such as more towels or toilet paper. The shop was a little overpriced but convenient, with other shops nearby offering better value. The town of Port El Kantaoui itself is lovely with interesting shops and good restaurants. The tours available from your tour operator give an excellent flavour of Tunisia, particularly the two-day desert adventure, which also takes in other interesting sites such as the magnificent Roman Colusseum at El Jem.
All in all, we were pleasantly surprised by how nice everything was in this hotel and in the area as a whole.

good but old

from moyle-rvrs
just back from tuinisia ,the sol club el kantanoui.
first impressions its old,it looks luxurious, and its big.a porter carried our bags to the room,we had two tired kids under 5.the room had four single beds in it and we had plenty of room.the fridge was a nice size,tv just had bbc24 on it but when you are on holiday you wont care whats on tv.
the kids club ran by the hotel was o.k. to poor.the facilities in general were ok.it was a bad time of the year, last week in march.they were getting ready for the busy time.dont buy anything in the shop in the hotel go across the road to a fine supermarket, its half the price of the hotel shop.
the disco is a fine place,
the nightly entertainmet was very poor.
mini golf they have consist of 6 holes which is really mini and poor quality.
the food for breakfast is ok but the dinner at night is great except you have to do alot of queing.
the market in sousse is poor and dangerous.if some says they recognise you from the hotel ignore them, they will lead you down an alley then say good bye to your money, beware, beware.
