The poolside area is fine with free use of beach towels. The hotel was full, and although some people did reserve their sunbeds, there was no need to as there were plenty everyday, all day.
The only downside was that on arrival, we were given room 1477 on floor -1 which was not a ground floor but in fact a 1st floor. We unpacked and settled in, only to find ants pouring down the bathroom wall from a damp patch and hole in the ceiling. It was then that we started noticing that they were pouring out of every hole in the room, even all over our clothes in the wardrobes. Yes, we know hot countries have ants, and weve been to many different ones, some hotter, but never ever have we ever experienced them in the rooms. A quick call at reception and to be fair, they sent the man round to spray. The existing ants were killed instantly, we were happy. Unfortunately, the spray did not stop the rest of the ant army and they still continued to pour out from every hole, patio door frame, ceiling, skirting boards, doorways everywhere. (Unfortunately, nowhere had been sealed the wooden or plastic trims had just been placed there and there were also ivy like shrubs growing up the walls underneath our balcony which probably made it easier for the ants to climb up. Reception agreed to move us the next day after some people vacated their rooms, but sent the man round to spray, mop and be supervised by 2 managers. We felt sorry for him as we didnt want them to think it was his fault for not spraying properly in the first place. The rest of the day was spent on ant patrol preventing them from coming by the bed area. We were also suffering from the fumes of the ant killer. Yuk.
The next day, we were given another room to see. I told reception that as long as there were no ants wed be ok. As we were moving luggage, another couple were also moving, they also had lots of ants in their previous room. As the holiday wore on, it became evident that most of the guests had ants in that corridor. (Unsure about the rest of the hotel though). Reception sent us a little ceramic gift ?whether this was to pacify us and not complain to airtours.Im sorry but its not acceptable that you get crawled over whilst lying on the bed, or ants in your hair everytime you go through the patio curtain. We think better pest control required. Shame really, cos those ants spoilt what should have been a relaxing holiday. Beware.

The hotel was well decorated and the rooms were very clean, spacious. The Spa facilities were of a high standard.
Port El Kantaoui has a lovely port and few shops even though I would advice to go to Sousse for the shopping as there are fix prices shops and you don't keep getting people following you around convincing you to buy stuff. Anyway that is part of the Tunisian experience and... it is worth trying!!
The only thing I did not enjoy was the 2 days excursion to the Sahara desert as the guide was very rude and made it unpleasant. I booked this with my travel agent.
However, forgetting that ... the people at the hotel were fantastic!!!
Can't wait to go back!!!

great holiday
from allibearOur room was immaculate well furnished and included free fridge, a free safe and had stunning view over the sea.
Meal times where a delight, smells and colours greeted us at the door, the food was fantastic lots to choose from and a lot of it cooked on the spot. My grandson 20 month always had lots to tuck into.
The entertainment team what can I say “bless” they where great no end of patience with my grandson he loved the sand castles and mini disco thumbs up from the toddlers. Us adults too had great fun they where entertaining very professional and worked very hard, well done.
Port El Kantaoui was a fantastic day out, we where two women travelling on our own with a toddler, if there was going to be any problem we would have come across it but it was great, we used local taxis 3 dinar to the port about £1.30.things are very cheep but you have to haggle “tip” treat it as a game. Sitting in the sun at a café on the harbour listening to Elton John watching the world was very surreal. Out and about in Tunisia we where tret with nothing but respect by the locals, the young men were you could say a little flirty but harmless.
Indulge yourself in the spar, certainly a great treat the girls are fantastic. The indoor pools are warm one of them waist deep on the grandson very nice on the one cool day we had.
What more can I say but well done The Bellevue, its staff and Thomson’s for a great holiday hoping to return September, see you soon.
wonderful experience
from sandiesarnieNice hotel, food nothing special
from hozz- Rooms are comfortable and spacious , daily cleaning, nice bathrooms, toilet in separate room. Almost perfect.
- Big pool area with changing cabins and showers, separate pool for kids. Very nice and surprisingly big.
- Great beach with perfect sand, some algea in the sea water but no bigger problem. The umbrellas which have rusty metal spikes sticking out of them might be quite dangerous (they're so low that you can easily bump your head on them). During most of the day there is some sports animation going on with a nasty gasoline smell coming from the motorboats used.
- Animation is offered but thankfully they leave you alone if you're not interested. Sometimes there is music playing at the pool area but it is kept at a reasonable volume level.
- Fitness room is in a desperate state. some machines aren't usable or quite dangerous.
- Food was plentiful (salad bar, buffet,.. - the standard for all inclusive hotels) but rather bland, boring taste. At the end of our stay we were happy to leave it behind. Unfortunately the water offered with the food had a strong taste of chlorine at all times (though this might be a general problem in Tunisia). Especially in the food area we would have expected something better, considering the rest of the hotel. The only thing that stood out was the all inclusive cocktail bar with friendly staff.
If not for the food, we would have no problem going there again. The hotel can be recommended for families with kids - but not for gourmets.
Loved the hotel, the staff was caring and always helpful.
from Becky111I had a beautiful time at the hotel. The staff was fantastic, lovely and caring. The animation team worked really hard to make us have a great time and they were really good. A particular thank you to Fabio in the Animation Team!

The weather was not great for the first 3 days, it was a bit windy and cold (around 15-16 degrees). However it got to about 23-24 degrees by the end of my holiday.

Fantastic Time!!!!
from russky72The hotel is true to its 4 star rating, as it has been recently updated and every area has been beautifully renovated.
We were only there for a week, but we managed to cram a lot into the 7 days. We spent an afternoon in the Health Spa, which is well very well equipped and experienced four of the treatments they offer. There are several packages available, all of which are good value when compared to prices back home.
We experienced the 2-day trip to the Sahara, which was excellent value for money, as you managed to fit so much in.
We also went on the trip to the local market in the morning and wine tasting in the afternoon, both of which were good experiences. Be aware, the locals can be a little over zealous at the market and you will be asked every 3ft to look at each and every stall!!! Its still a good experience though!!
Back to the hotel, each and every member of staff genuinely want you to enjoy your stay and will do absolutely anything to make your stay a pleasurable one.
Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!!
Riu Belle Vue Park Hotel Review
from DartfaderJust had a week at the Riu Belle Vue, first time have been to Tunisia so wasn't sure what to expect. The food was fantatstic, drink was great, the wine is lovely. The hotel itself is like a sultans palace and well worth the 4 star rating, all of the staff were really helpful.
Downsides, not really too much to be honest, would have liked to have seen a little more entertainment but accept it is Feb. The only critisicm I have is that on last day market came to hotel and we ended up feeling hassled.
Went to Sousse, had couple of great days out, visit the Medina it is an experience even though not very enjoyable at times.
Good Hotel, Excellent Staff
from sootyThe hotel.
The staff were excellent and could not do enough to help. Unfortunately I became ill on the second day we were there with bronchitis but the hotel staff were excellent and really did all they could to help and were enquiring about me all the time. They even posted a get well note from the reception staff under the door. The hotel luckily had access to a doctor who visitied and prescribed medication for me (only cost £20 for the callout) and arranged for one of the hotel nurses to pick up the prescription and bring it to the hotel room that evening and give me the first of the injections I needed. The hotel has their own Nursing station which was attended most of the day for accidents and to tend to some of the older guests who also needed some treatment. In my case I had to have injections twice a day. Once again, I cannot praise the hotel staff enough.
We were given a free upgraded room to a suite on arrival because I knew my wife's date of birth!!! A very nice gesture. it was particularly benficial as it turned out because as my breathing was poor, had I been sleeping in the same room as my wife I would have kept her awake all night, but as we had been upgraded, she could sleep in the bedroom and I slept on one of the 2 beds in the lounge area. Plenty of storage space for clothes - the best we have had in any hotel I have stayed in for business or pleasure. The hotel is rated 4 star and I guess that this is why the rooms just missed a couple of nice touches such as an Iron & Ironing board, Tea & Coffee making facilities and a stocked fridge as opposed to an empty one. These little things are things that we had got used to when going 4 star to the Carribean as we normally do for our main holiday.
The hotel has been totally refurbished and the decor in the main lobby and other areas is excellent. It gives a great feeling of openess and yet also gives the appearance of being in a big Arabian tent.. Even though the weather was not good, the public areas in the hotel allowed you to sit comfortably and you did not feel over crowded. The food was always hot and a good variety. The duputy manager was always going around the serving areas checking the temperature of the food with a thermometer to ensure that it was hot. My only comment on the food is that I would have like to have seen some "real" ham with the cold buffet and breakfast as opposed to salami type sausage but that is just me being picky. I am also diabetic and trying to track down sugar free cold drinks was a problem initially as all the drink dispensers in the hotel did not have any Diet drinks. Eventually I found Diet Coke in a bottle in the restaurant and in the main lobby which made a nice change from water. The shops only seemed to have Diet Coke and no other Sugar Free drinks so I guess that they do not have a great demand for them in Tunisia.
Unfortunately due to my health we did not get out to see much of Tunisia but it must be said that out of season it did not do much for me. Maybe different in the main season because the beach looked nice and the pool would definately have been warm. The hotel facilities by the pool would also have been open for food etc and that would all have made the difference. Many people at the airport and on the way home seemed very disappointed with their trip but it must be said that the hotel we were in, and the excellent staff made up for the shortcomings of the weather.
All in all a nice holiday and we may go back again in a main season so as to enjoy better weather and open facilities.
If going away during the winter, I would not recommend Tunisia but would look more at the Canary Islands where we have been normally and have enjoyed warmer weather.
Relaxing New Year
from loglewStaff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Food first class, especially for an all inclusive hotel.
Animation staff worked exceptionally hard and even ran kids club if only our 2 turned up.
Recommend the health spa to any visitors, it turned a great holiday into a fantastic one. Didn't think it would be my cup of tea but I'm a convert !!
loved the massage
from haggisScotlandIn a word this holiday was - refreshing.
from Natural yogurtYou might think this was a strange time of year to go on holiday to Tunisia but the weather was good with daytime temperatures reaching 20 to 22C. This is not to everyone's liking and I guess that the hotel was two thirds full. It means that you can stroll around in shirt sleeves and not break out into a sweat. Swimming in the outdoor pool or the sea is a challenge - you swim rather than bathe to cool off! The sea is clean and the beach is sandy. The outdoor pool was I guess 25m by 12m and went from ankle deep to 1.8m which is a little over my head. I went in twice and it was cold but OK, you had to want to swim to go into the pool. Pool towels were free and easily obtained from the pool guy who was very attentive. This saves on your luggage as we were restricted to 20kg per person, which is a problem for women. The indoor pool was heated and maybe 5m by 5m in size and I could put both feet down anywhere.
Being an all-inclusive hotel the food is a self service buffet affair, choose a table and help yourself to whatever you want to eat and drink. In the evening there is 2 sittings and your table is allocated for the length of your stay. The breakfast was good and I particularly liked the hot Tunisian/Arab flatbread. There was even bacon available for the infidels. At lunch there was always hot and cold food, salads, pizza and pasta. At evening meal there was hot and cold food plus a Tunisian speciality hot food counter. For drinks you helped yourself to fruit juice, pop, Celtia beer or wine. I thoroughly enjoyed all my meals and it was to my taste, all you would expect from a Middle Eastern menu.
I was surprised at just how clean and spotless all the public toilets within the hotel complex were. They were first class and make UK pubs and restaurant toilets look like those of a third world country.
The entertainment is provided mainly by the animation team in a large indoor hall with it's own bar. The animation team worked very well together and were funny. All the entertainment was done in 3 languages, German, French and English. They kept us all entertained and tried their level best. There was variety and the content was family safe. The music was very middle of the road and European/American but was a minor disappointment to me as I had hoped for local/Arab popular and contemporary disco beats.
The internet is available for hotel guests either in the lounge or by using your wi-fi laptop. The sting is the 10 dinar - £4 an hour charge.
Top Local Tips for Port El Kantaoui
Fill in the visa ON the plane Fill in the EVERY bit of the visa form that the give you on the plane. The queues for immigration are long and arduous, especially if a few planes arrive at once- being sent back to the end of the queue because you have missed the bit- 'where are you staying' is gut wrenching.
Haggel always agree far before you start reps will know what you will expect to pay
Out on a limb. The hotel is at the northern extent of the tourist area. Port El Kantaoui is within a long walking distance (about 40 minutes) but taxis are plentiful and cheap (no more than 3DT) Sousse will cost about 7DT and from Sousse is an excellent electric train link to Hammamet and Tunis.
