This is our second visit to this hotel and all i can say is it got better and better.The animation team really make this holiday the best you have fun from the minute you arrive and all the staff are very friendly.Thankyou to all the staff at this hotel and especially the boys Scooby,Shaggy and Alex we love you all xx

My opinion about Occidental Allegro Abu Sofiane Hotel, in brief:

First, we went there at the end of May 2008, we asked them to turn on the air-conditioning, and they said that they do not turn on the air-conditioning before the 01st-June, even though the temperature was approximately 33 Celsius. And the balcony's slide door was not fitted with a mesh to prevent bugs from entering the room, therefore at night time we spent the night battling the bugs to be able to sleep and at the end of our vacation my legs were full of red spots because of bug bites.

Second, the room had no fridge, and if you want to have a cold bottle of water, you have to get a card from the reception and then go to the bar, give them the card and only then they would give you a bottle. If that was really a four star hotel, you will at least have a fridge in the room and you will have a large cold bottle of water delivered to your room every day.

Third, the food is utter rubbish, so don't be fooled with the all inclusive offer. The Tunisian cuisine in general compared to other countries cuisines that I have tried, is not that great, so even if you want to eat outside the hotel, there is no big variety of dishes to choose from, believe me it is by no means considered tasty.

Fourth, the rooms do have satellite TV, but the English channels are very few, and no local Tunisian channels, as if the hotel owner does not want tourists to learn about his own country's culture, I'm not sure why?!!!

Nice Beaches, good location, I agree, but the hotel itself is rubbish, choose another hotel.

First off, please don't be put off by the drive from the airport to the hotel looking like Beirut! It's industrial looking and scruffy but gets much better further along. On arrival at the hotel the check-in was swift, and we were shown quickly to our room and settled in. Our first experience (of many) for tipping. We left all our other tipping at the hotel until the end of the hotel which pretty much seemed to be the thing to do. The hotel, while in need of a little TLC on the decor front, but was kept very clean and tidy. With a restaurant, snack bar, four bars and various foodie interludes during the day there is certainly plenty to eat and drink. The food in the rstaurant was excellent, a good variety each evening and some themed evenings. The restaurant also included a pasta bar, so if you were unsure of anything else you could at least get a spag bol! The staff at the hotel were all very kind and friendly ... there are some people allowed into the hotel grounds to sell trips or activities but they are quite happy with a polite no thank you. Only one was quite persistent and in the end we fobbed him off by telling him we had booked elsewhere. The animation team worked very hard - 19-20 hours a day - and were brilliant. 100% effort from them, but they were quite understanding of the fact that we didn't always want to do the activities and were there to rest. My only criticism is that sometimes the music and PA system around the pool was too loud, but it wasn't going all day, just a couple of hours in the morning, a lengthy break for lunch, and then a couple of hours late afternoon. Each evening there was a kiddies disco, followed by a show put on by the animnation team and dancers, and then a disco for the adults (kids can stay until midnight). While not our particular cup of tea we did go a couple of times and, again, 100% effort was put in by everyone involved. Most of the night club tunes were biased toward R&B - little more cheese would have been fun! If you get the chance, do the 2 or 3 day trip into the Sahara and Atlas mountains. Camel riders beware - it gets hot hot hot - pay the extra 3 dinar (just over £1) for the outfit to keep the sun out. You will visit places where they filmed Star Wars, Gladiator and Life of Brian, among others. 750 miles in two days, a sunrise, a train ride ... all in all very good value for money.

To sum it up: hotel, little decoration work needed but otherwise very good and we would go back there; Port El Kantaoui, shop keepers a little annoying and pestering but be firm; Tunisia as a whole, loved it and will go back for definite!!!

The whole family loved it! The animation team are the best that i've ever seen (and i have seen quite a few). All of them were great but especcially Shaggy, Lilo, Big Billy,Mookie and Sam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More than satisfied, but a few hints to be wary.

It was the first sun holiday of its type for us. The all inclusive was a relevation abeit exhausting (from doing nothing). The cleaning ladies swept the carpet in the bedroom halls and not used a vacuum cleaner to keep down the noise. The al a carte nite in 'The Jasmine Restaurant' was excellent, check out the 'Lamb in a pot' you won't be disappointed!! Otherwise the food was varied and of excellent quality. Be wary of the guy in the foyer, who will offer you a tour of the medina...this will not happen, instead you will end up in a village where you will be intimidated into buying a carpet, these guys do not say no. Do not go on the tour, but make you own way into Sousse by taxi, this will be alot let hassle and stressful. The staff on the beach have only one thing in mind and that is to get as much of your cash as is possible vis-a-vis motorised water sports. For seven days I wanted to sail and basically I was put off with a 'too much wind, too little wind' routine, and always 'tomorrow'. Fact is they are too lazy to rig the dinghy and it is a false claim to advertise that watersports are part of the package. All in all these are small gripes, as you get two hotels for the same price, this is not to be ignored.

Perfect holiday ,animation team excellent,bar staff the same, dining room staff perfect food very good & variation great.tunisian & italian resteruants great, special mention to ali @sam (aka Ronaldo)waiters that were always very pleasant. thanks to hotel for putting on suprise entertainments ,rooms clean, pool guys very good to. Will most definately be going back

It was a good holiday with lots of great and funny memories. There is lots of fun things to do while at the hotel. The show at night was entertaining and filled with talent, my favourite member of the animation team was Olya she was great.

This was the best holiday I have ever been on! The food was ok with alot of variety. Everyone is polite and easy to get along with! Animation team were absolutley brilliant could'nt fault them at all!Especially Shaggy, Sam and Momo. They keep you entertained throughout the whole day and work extremley hard!
I'm definetly going back next year and would recommend it to anyone.

My husband son and myself stayed for two weeks from xmas eve. We had the best time food was very different but excellent choice. Weather was warm we had excellent holiday thanks to animation team especially Shaggy, Momo and Lilo. We love you all!

Top Local Tips for Port El Kantaoui

Taxis The taxi service our accomodation to Sousse cost around 7 dinar for four of us. It is fast and direct. The Little train is a pleasant journey and cost around 12 dinar return but it takes a long time and the driver keeps stopping and waiting to try to fill up the carriages. So if you are in a hurry take a taxi but hold on it can get a bit hairy

taxis You will take your life in your hands when you go in a taxi. Great fun actually. No rules and regs, just drive fast and shut your eyes

Happy Noddy Train & Tuk Tuk Happy Noddy Train is very good for getting to Sousse. There are 4 of them (different colours) but they don't accept eachother's return tickets, so it is recommended that you buy 2 singles. Do not get on a Tuk Tuk as it seems very unsafe (its like a golf buggy with a tiny engine) - apparently they try to get 7 people on one but it can only hold 4 at the most.
