Top Local Tips for Hammamet
Marina There are a number of good restaurants in teh marina area (Yasmine Hammamet) which are well worth visiting.
Medina Prepare to be hassled and at times abused and sworn at, on first trip to medina could not wait to find exit. Went back and found another entrance where sellers were a bit more fun. If asked which hotel you are staying at do not reply, you will get approached by a number of men saying they are from your hotel and drag you to their family shops, most do not work at hotels. Many hotels have agents giving free trips to 'government shops' that say they are cheaper than Medina, their starting prices are usually higher than those at the Medina, so haggle there.
Where to eat I found the advice in Lonely Planet really helpful when it came to finding places to eat, which otherwise would have been daunting. I liked Sidi Slim, Belle Vue, Lella Fatma (which are next door to each other). Anything in downtown in the touristy area is pretty safe. Couscous and other local specialties were best. Also, the crepes were good nearly everywhere because of the French influence. Avoid the pizza, paninis, etc. They didn't taste like what I expected.
