Getting to Zanzibar When you arrive at the port (to go to Zanzibar) ignore everyone who is trying to sell you a ticket or offer advice. Some of them are trying to get your money and take a cut (i.e. charge you $5 extra on top of the ticket price to buy the ticket for you). They can be quite aggressive (surrounding you) and it's possible some of them maybe working for one particular company (so the information they give may not be accurate e.g. "the next boat is at 1pm"). Instead go up to the different sales booths and find which fast boat is going next and compare prices. Watch your items in the port area (as there are lots of people in close proximity). A couple of our friends bought tickets from the street sellers and go charged extra ($5) and the boat had just departed so they had to wait another 3 hours for the next one (as the tickets were bought and they couldn't then go with another company). First class is probably worth it as it is $5 more and you get a bit more space and air-con.
