we have been staying at the blue marlin for a number of years and will continue to do so as long as we can as it is home from home the staff are good christian friendly people and make us very welcome, the price is reasonable, the food is ample & good the scenery is beautiful the gardens are lovely, scottburgh is a nice place you can walk down from the hotel to the shops without fear of crime, the beach is also safe if you follow the hotel rules keep in the desigrated areas, we are booked to go again in feb 2011.

The room we were given was called the "executive suite," what a joke. It was filthy and didn't even measure up to the standards of a regular hotel room. The furnishings were all soiled. The counter tops were dirty with BLOOD SMEARS on the bathroom counter. There were also blood smears in the public elevators. The bed linen was full of holes and didn't fit the bed. We took all the linen and towels to an outside laundry to wash before we could use them. The shower stall was black with mold. We supposedly had a private patio with views. Well there were no views unless you stood and peered over the high walls. The patio furniture was dirty and the whole area was decaying and dirty. We had to go out and purchase antibacterial cleaning agents and cloths to clean the entire room and bathroom. Since this town does not have any other hotels there were no options for us to leave and go to. The food in the dining room and dismal as was the service. Our room rate included all meals. After just one meal in the hotel we ate all our meals out at local restuarants. Service at reception was "okay" at check-in. Beyond that it was horrible. The staff were not at all invested in the needs of their guests. Telephone service to the rooms for incoming calls is a "hit & miss" affair. A number of times we were told be friends who tried to reach us at the hotel that they were not put through. We frequently saw staff sitting in front of a TV in the public lounge instead of performing their duties. We have since learned that there are a number of holiday apartments for rent in the area. These would be a much better option than the Blue Marlin Hotel which is nothing more than a filthy, decaying structure full of incompetent staff. I have posted pictures on this site of the room that we had stayed in.

The blue marlin is a wonderful base if you want to see some of the wonderful delights the part of South Africa as to offer. I have stayed at the hotel on several occasions and each time the service as been excellent, the staff are warm and welcoming and they never forget a face, I hope this is the case as I am planning on visiting them again in 2007.The range of food on offer is great and there is something for everyone, the entertainment is a little dated but still good, some more up to date acts would do the hotel much more justice.
The kids, the staff try to keep the kids happy and organise lots of different activities most of which are free, if not only a small fee is needed.
Overall, I would recommend this place to any first time visitor to this area and they will then be as myself a return customer to this lovely family run hotel.

Great Beaches Scottburgh is one of the smaller south coast towns - this is a very good thing as the beaches aren't too developed and has natural coast lines
