We, 2 couples, stayed at Clouds End towards end August 2009. We had been travelling since early morning and were very tired so accepted the last 2 double rooms sharing a bathroom. Rooms were dingy looking and bathroom desperatly needed a make over. We had a super meal that evening, it reminded me of meals we had in Karoo hotels in early 80's. Although I did not appreciate the cat jumping on my knee while eating. Woke up in middle of night and could feel the springs in the matress. On closer inspection next morning found that the matress was threadbare and full of holes. Friends in next room would not use the pillows as they were badly stained.
No we would never stay there again.

It reminded me of the movie "wrong turn"
I think it might have been a 3 star in the early 70's but believe you me,it is no longer. The bedding was full of holes, the bath was so dirty, there were no curtains in the bathroom, remote for small TV on the cupboard did not work, its dirty, and there is this huge dog that smells every plate in the dining room, accompanied by a whole family of cats.It should be a 1 star!! The food was okay though!

I stayed at Clouds End this past weekend. My wifes cousin was getting married in Louis Trichard and the whole family (+- 12 couples and families) booked into Clouds End expecting a wonderful weekend ahead of us. Needless to say we were terribly disappointed. While there are many things that can be said, I'll minimise it to the main following issues

1) To classify this place as a hotel is very misleading, best description would be a budget bed and breakfast establishment
2) The boards on the outside state 3 star accommodation when in fact it is rated as 2 star by the Toursim Grading council
3) The general cleanliness of the actual rooms left a lot to be desired. Stained matresses, clogged taps, etc
4) The monkeys at the place are quite troublesome. I understand that the "hotel" cannot control this aspect, but the least that should be done is a warning letter stating that should we leave the rooms, the windows and doors should be closed. These monkeys jump into rooms and ransack the place obviously looking for food. This can be dangerous should one of them hurt someone. Barring one sign in the front (stating do not feed the monkeys) Clouds End could be held liable for injuries sustained without proper warning.
5)I am a nature lover, and often go camping, so I consider myself capable of "roughing it up." But when one finds a frog in their bathroom, it does lead to question marks on the general maintenance of the place. The frog surely had to have been in the place for quite some time, and the fact it was not found means that the bathroom was not cleaned thoroughly.
6) Other "facilities" advertised and which we paid for included
Air conditioner - not working
Pool on site - not cleaned and green, with 2 ducks making it their home
Tea/Coffee - which was promised to us by reception but never given to us
Fans in the room - not in the one I stayed in

Unpleasant Trip

We stayed at Clouds End with a large number of family members as we were attending a function nearby. First of all, there was false advertising on their part. This is a 2 star hotel but is advertised with 3 stars on the board along the road side before you get to the place. Sorry to say but this should be a 1 star. Unfortunately we got the rooms that were not so great, it doesnt seem like this place gets very busy. We had brown muck come out from 1 of the taps. A frog in the bathroom, I mean, how on earth does a frog get into the bathroom. U cant even leave ur room doors open beacuse monkeys will just attack it. There is a dog that just roams around (not many people like dogs so they should respect that) So many rooms did not have an aircon that worked, neither were there any fans in the rooms. No MNET on tv in the room. My parents room had a tv on their cupboard, that to me is a safety hazard. My cousin required an additional mattress in one of the rooms, unfortunately we had seen the mattress they brought, stained and yellow, wish we didnt see that. And some parts of the resort were just unappealing, pictures to follow. The pool was green with ducks swimming in it, much to the dismay of our eager littles ones who wanted to enjoy themselves. They have a sister hotel which is a 3 star which is must better than this and which they should be advertising rather than this crap. The reception as well as the rooms are not very brightly lit. This place is in no shape to accommodate any paraplegic persons. The manageress, Barbara was not very helpful, for someone who works with customers her hospitality and assistance was most disappointing. Alot of our guests transferred to the sister hotel as they were very unhappy when they saw this place. Our mistake was checking in without seeing the place, well atleast it taught us a valuable lesson. To us, 2/3 star does not mean fancy, it means neat and clean, with neat walkways, lots of light, a decent room with standard decor. And for the price, not worth it at all. R430 per couple (no breakfast), sorry to say but we've stayed in much better places at less than that price. To think we took so many rooms. Also, there arent many websites that have different pictures of the place, this is a gross misrepresentation of what the place really looks like. Never again ! This place was not good enough and will not be good enough for our family members / friends either. Like I said, we do not want a fancy place, we just want something that is neat and clean, and as muslims, we are very particular about cleanliness. Duck mess, monkey mess, dog mess all over the place is really not for us !
