Wouldn't recommend

Prior to our arrival we were promised working internet, DSTV channels and a working landline phone. None of this was delivered. The complex team seemed to think it was acceptable to give apartment master keys to external contractors without the occupants permission (arriving back from work to find a complete stranger in your apartment is not great) which resulted in the theft of small electrical items.

I would not recommend this apartment complex for the business traveller.

A business trip brought me to Jo'burg. As I don't like hotel chains for a longer stay I choose the Waldorf Standton for that period. It was the best I could do! Luxury, spacious apartments, absolute friendly staff and all the help I needed to make this trip as convenient as possible (including helping out as my laptop was broken, organizing weekend trips or lifts from and to the airport). What was important for me (as hobby chef), the apartments have a fully equipped kitchen, the shopping center across the road provides you with everything you need and if you are not up for cooking they even have four restaurants. To make a long story short, I would be glad if I could find places like the Waldorf on all my trips.

I stayed at The Waldorf Sandton for two month while on business in South Africa. Everything was great from rooms, service & price. Two people can stay in the apartment for the same price. You can choose from daily rates or contract for longer periods at cheaper rates.

The Waldorf's speciality is making the consultant more productive. They offer support services to the business like 3G connections, laptops etc.
There is a choice of four restaurants to eat in in the shopping centre and they also deliver groceries if you want. It is all very convenient.

Their concierge function arranges your social life during midweek and over the weekends, when one would be sitting doing nothing. I learned to scuba dive through their affiliates over a week.

Top Local Tips for Johannesburg

COST & SECURITY Waldorf apartments are self-catering, so you can save a lot by eating in or use the restaurants across the road if you're not up to cooking. In Johannesburg security is important. The Waldorf is very good. They are polite but thorough about all they let in.

THE BLUES ROOM & OTHER ENTERTAINMENT The Blues Room is a good eveing out if you like music. Food is mediocre, but all is forgiven for the live music. Sandton Square is overrated, try places like Melville for quaint restaurants and Fourways for clubs like Cubana and My Bar My Grill. Stay away from Billy the Bums unless you are under 25. It's a whole lot of noise and underaged teenagers. Good business lunch venues in Sandton are Linger Longa and La Canard Restaurants. On the weekends get out to either Haartebeesport Dam or the Vaal River. Stonehaven on the Vaal is a great place to do lunch and if you want to stay over I recommend you hire a houseboat to cruise the river. Theatre is good... try Victory Theatre in Orange Grove and theaters at Sandton Square and Broadacres Shopping Center (can't remember their names).

THE BLUES ROOM & OTHER ENTERTAINMENT The Blues Room is excellent value. The food is mediocre, but for the live music all is forgive. Favoruite restaurants in Johannesburg are Wombles, La Canard and Linga Longa restaurants. Stonehaven on Vaal River is a great place for Sunday lunch. Sun City is a must and so is the Pilansberg National Park
