Avoid the Butchers Grill

The Famous Butchers Grill is a bad choice for a restaurant. Slow service, tough steaks, indifferent management and general low standards. We will not go there again. The Greek rump was very small, and tasted of the gas grill, with three pieces of feta, a couple of tomatoes, garlic cloves and a sprig of rosemary for R80. The sauce for the Beef escargot was placed on top of the meat in spite of requesting it on the side. The grilled line fish was not grilled but panfried, in spite of the managers attempt to say the contrary. He had to be asked twice to get a response. The restaurant is dull and impersonal - what a bad dinnner choice!

I had the great pleasure of staying at the Newlands Southern Sun on my first trip to South Africa. I found it to be a very pleasant stay. I was there almost two weeks: The hotel was clean, updated, pleasant and you had everything you needed for a long stay. The staff was wonderful, always pleasant, attentive and helpful. The room service from the restaurant was excellent. There are two restaurants in the hotel both of which I would highly recommend. The surrounding area is excellent for a great walk in the neighbourhood or to the Cavendish Shopping centre only a couple of blocks away.
