Poor service and run down apartments.

I stayed at CSH in Jan 2008, The 3 bedroom ' luxury' apartment was in fact not luxury at all. We booked almost a year in advance for 7 PAX, when we got there there was no bedding, cutlery, towels for the 7th person, in fact there wasn't even the correct number of anything there for anyone. Alot of the glasses were chipped and a hazard. House Keeping was sporadic, they would make up one room a day or 2 and leave the third one untouched.The rubbish was never taken out of the kitchen and we had to do it ourselves as well as put in new bin liners.
The sleeper couch was broken, the 'complimentary' shuttles to location didn't run often and sometimes not at all. The staff were not friendly at all. The house keeping staff started singing at the top of their voices at around 6 am every morning waking us all up.
The swimming pools were possibly the dirties I have seen in all my travels, not once did I see anyone clean the pool the entire week. There was so much sand in the bottom I felt like I was at the beach!
The price for a 4 star hotel that has a level of service and old utensils like this is astronomical and a total rip off. I would NOT recommend anyone to stay here.

Picked up car and found hotel relevantly easy. Picture of hotel on the internet very different, than reality. Picture must have been taken 20-30 years ago. We were given room at rear of complex, balcony was filthy, broken table, chairs suspect. The view was really horrible, so we would be unable to sit there anyway. Looking at a courtyard, with a family of alcoholics, living in a box. No other rooms were available. Restaurant dirty and dismal, food just about average. Staff very friendly, buffet breakfast, mostly cold, highlite was gentleman preparing omelettes, very tasty, made to order, a real character. Hotel suitable for business traveller, could do with a refurb. Also a good clean, not impressed, and would not return.

Reserving accommodation via a website Beware of accommodation in Cape Town where the name begins with an "A" - it seems that this is often in an effort to manipulate search results on some of the more popular accommodation websites.

Table Mountain Cable car Get up early and ring the toll free number to check that the cable car is running. (it took us nearly a week as the cable car was stopped due to high winds). Once you have confirmed that it is operating make sure that there is no cloud at the top of the mountain and set off early to avoid the queues. Make sure you have plenty of memory on your camera for the awesome views.

Rent a Car, See Stellenbosch and Franshhoeck but stay in CapeTown!! Get the Eyewitnes travel guide for SouthAfrica- it has excellent reviews of historical buildings and Parks - The street map of Cape Town is invaluable. Spend a day at Camps Bay - great beaches with ajacent parking. Recommended arte the 3 or 4 excellent seafood resaurants ( NB you pay by weight usually) Classy nightlife. Go to table mountain in the morning -1st thing - as afternoon winds cause it to become closed on health and safety grounds. Go to the Newlands rugby if you can- awsome venue and well behaved friendly people but very noisy. Pre Book a hire car and collect at the Airport, roads are great, fuels is cheap and a fixed price. See Stellenbosch, as many vineyards as possible, go through the Worcester tunnel, visit Franshhoek for the french feel. Party the night away in smaller areas. Everyone drink-drives so do be careful. If you see an ATM get cash out- be cafeful as to who's watching you. Average minimum wage is £90 per month so tips to hotel staff / taxis go a long way
