Historical Traveller Reviews of Ryad Mogador Hotel

Ok but nothing special

from lailasmum
This hotel is ok. I went there with my sister and my 2 year old daughter. Its ok thats it. Nothing great nothing terrible. Really smelly kitchens which were a bit of a problem and the smell from the supermarket below was a bit strong at times. The swimming pool is tiny, don't be mislayed by the picture, it was a bit dirty so we decided not to use it. Awful restaurant but good buffet breakfast. ok staff, there english varies, some v good some don't want to talk to you at all. I wouldn't personally go back and would pay a little more for better surroundings but if this was the only option is would be ok. The location is a bit noisy and a bit of a walk from anywhere you would want to visit. However with a child the supermarket was handy.

Value for money and excellent location

from A_TAdvisor_Member
Reception staff were efficient on checking in. We didn't need to use them otherwise.

The Ryad Mogador Hotel is in an excellent location to see both sides of Marrakesh. Positioned almost on the old city walls, it enables the traveller to experience the hustle and bustle of old Marrakesh but still living by acceptable Western standards.

Our bedroom was clean and tidy, not luxurious but adequate and value for money.

Breakfast was to a good continental standard. Self service and eat as much as you like.

One could spend all day watching the city operate, from the upper floor room balconies. The hotel felt safe, clean and is as close to the old city as you can comfortably get. The old town is within easily walkable distance for the able bodied traveller.

If you want to visit further afield taxis are easily available on the main street outside.

Good value hotel

from Chad431
I stayed at this hotel for a total of three nights and was impressed by the quality of the rooms. Rooms were clean and smart, with half having balconies overlooking the city, and despite the hustle and bustle of the day these were quiet as soon as the call to end fasting was heard (we stayed during Ramadan).

In addition the Hotel is ideally suited for walking into town and the various main sites which aren't as hard to find as you'd initially think if you head of in the right direction. Having a supermarket literally as part of the hotel is also very useful for buying water etc.

Having read comments about breakfast I was weary but it was typical morrocan fare, and all fresh so I wouldn't quible over £2.50.

All in all a surprisingly good hotel for the price.

Reception

from Taromit
We didnt get as far as staying here- After trying to book 22 people in for December (a sizeable party) , not only did the hotel not bother to reply to the email, but also when visiting, the man at reception was making bad remarks in arabic about potential clients in front of them, just assuming that they wouldnt understand.

It is a real 3 star

from miss_jan
After having read the comments on this site, I was a bit worried. When we arrived, the receptionnist was OK, kind of reserved but when she gave us a room on the 3rd floor, I asked for a quiet room, she gave us then one on the 5th which is fine. The hotel is in the city center, quite noisy, but our room is much less noisy than I thought, well, except the air con...
The room is very clean, but quite small, around 18m² so not for long stay.
The pool is small but clean, not the deak chairs though...
NEVER eat at the restaurant, not worth the price, you can eat much much better in th town for this prcie! Do not even pay 4 Euros for the breakfast, grap something better at the bakery supermarket right next door for 2 Euros!
Do not forget to change your currecy at the airport, better do it there or at the French Bank "Societie Generale" next to the tourist office in the center
Compare to "Royal" Air Maroc, I would recommand this hotel to buget travellers or lazy people who wanna be at the city center.
By the way, "Royal" Air Maroc is not at all Royal!!! Greasy windows, dusty seats, full bin at the seat, rude flight attendants and never soap at the toilets! When I asked for a piece of soap and bread for my friend, never any answer! I got a cold face when I asked for the second time, without a word!

perfect!!

After reading the reviews we were a little worried and didn't quite know what to expect. On arrival (midnight) we were given a twin room rather than a double which we had booked. We thought this would be the start of a list of problems. But first thing they changed us to double room. Both the rooms we were in were spotless with clean bedding and running hot water. The staff couldn't have done any more but bend over backwards to help us. Especially when my girlfriend contracted a chest infection. The night porters made lemon and honey drinks for her at 5am and would come to our door with bottles of chilled water at any time night or day. (Not many places would do that). Luckily the hotel is right next to a doctors surgery and we went in the next day and were seen within 20 mins and we left with a prescription for the appropriate antibiotics and were not charged a penny!! The pharmacy is also across the street from the hotel- bonus!! The breakfasts were great and the best out of all the 3 accomodations we'd stayed in in morroco. Being above the biggest supermarket in marrakech also helps, they sell all items from western toiletries to fridge freezers The pool was clean and is more for dipping than swimming olympic lengths. The fish smell mentioned in some other reviews may have been from the market when they had fresh deliveries. We had noticed it one day and that was it. Being just outside the city walls meant that it's easier to sleep at night you can't really hear the call to prayer and the streets are quieter. We'd booked into a proper ryad on our final night and the place was beautiful (4 stars) but being in the medina meant more noise from 6am. Great Location - great hotel and would stay again.

Give the hotel apartment a try...very suitable for families and groups!

from shaz7861
We’re a family of five and we usually have to book two separate rooms when we go on holiday. However, when my dad contacted the hotel, they recommended the hotel apartment as it has a double room, a twin room, two bath rooms, a sitting room and a kitchen all included. We decided to go for it even after reading some of the reviews on this website on the hotel.

When we got to the hotel, we weren’t very impressed by the lobby area and weren’t expecting much from the apartment either but to our surprise it was much better than we thought. All rooms were very spacious, which were newly refurbished. The toilets were kept clean too and the kitchen was massive with a refrigerator and a sink. The sitting area was really nice too, very Moroccan style indeed. (see photo).

It’s the first time we’ve stayed in an apartment which is part of a hotel, but I’d recommend it to anyone who is travelling with their family or in a group. It’s a very good value for money too considering its location and distance from the medina. There’s also a supermarket and internet café right next to the hotel, which came in very handy to us during our stay.

Overall however, Ryad Mogador is not a hotel for luxury lovers, but perhaps for those who want something for a good value. I can’t comment on the normal rooms of the hotel, but walking past some of those that were open during cleaning hours did seem kind of small. The Swimming pool and the area around it are also tiny. We had lunch in the hotel and on the first day and the food is seriously not worth the price…you’re better of getting something from the supermarket next door if you’re so tired to go out.

Worst hotel i have ever been to!!!!

from railey
i went during the summer with a few mates, it was my first ever trip to marocco and i was really looking forward to it.
on the website we were promised a fridge in the hotel room but when we got their we had no fridge, we bought cold botteled water everyday but it would go hot coz we didnt have anywhere to put it.
marocco was amazing however the hotel was not, our room was completly busted the shower wasnt working, peopel would order food to their rooms then leave the plates outside next to their door and it wouldent be collected for at least tow days (no wonder they had cockroches), their was always a terribel sewage smell and always by the lifts. at night when we would get back from exploring we used to order coctails from the bar and we would have to wait for ages until they sent it up. In the middel of the night groups of people would go to the swimming pool (which was right outside our window) and make so much noise, we couldent sleep till four in the morning. a few of our things went missing while we were there. We also had to pay 220 dirhams for a safe and unlike most other hotels it wasnt a deposit so you couldent get it back.

most of all the staff were so unbelievebaly rude, the receptionest was not at all helpful, she would become irratated if you asked her for help, we asked her to recommend a good cafe as we did not know the place very well, she looked very reluctant to help, in the end we had to go in search for one our selves. this hotel has no level of professionalism what so ever nor any care for its customers as long as you pay them. this was the only downside of our holiday to marocco. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. we go on holiday to enjoy oueselves not to worry about busted showers, smelly lifts, not being abel to sleep at night due to noisy teenagers, and rude staff.

i wouldnt even recommend this to a dog!

i went there with 2 friends in july and stayed for 8 nights. i was disgusted with the staff at the reception who were miserable all the time and when we asked them a question we got ignored. there is no help or any info on tourist attraction and when you ask any of the staff they just tell you to get a taxi, well duh obviously i will get one when i know where im going!

we had to change our room 2 times. 1st room never had aircon and 2nd room had all sorts of problem such as leaking ceiling, broken beds, busted shower, and water coming out of the bath tub. it took them absolutely ages to fix it, even then it wasnt fixed they just made it worse. also on the 3rd day the cleaner knocked on the door when we were still in bed so we told her to go away, even though she heard us in the room coz we all shouted it out, she still decided to come into the room with her hoover, she took a look, smiled and said good morning and walked out like nothing happend!

on the 4th night we got accused by the recptionist for apparently sneaking a 4th person into our room and keeping them there. they constantly checked up on us and followed us around the hotel, now i would call that harassment! we told the manager all he said was "but the receptionist saw u take someone in" we never understood how, as our room was on the third floor and they work on the gound floor! after that they kept pointing at us and saying things.

the view from the room was of a tiny swimming, big enough to fit 5 people in! oh and you can also see the petrol station woohoo! we had to leave the windows open as it was too hot, but u cant sleep in the morning coz there is a market opposite and they start making a lot of noise from 6 in the morning.

the only advantage is that it has a supermarket below it and u dont need to go far to find taxis, and there are some nice cafes around, but the area is really dirty.

overall i wouldnt recommend it but if your ok with dirty areas, half broken rooms, rude receptionists, no tourist info, having to ask the receptionist to sort out your room a million times, noisy areas, and love big cockroaches all over the doors then this is just the place for you!!!! i really do hope u enjoy your stay, coz someone has to

Perfect for the Price!

from snelltheroses
Just returned from a long weekend staying at the Ryad Mogador and had a FANTASTIC time!! The hotel is in an excellent location, being just outside the wall of the medina (old city) - we wandered into the new part of the city and it is really boring...don't stay there!! A lovely 10-15 min walk brings you to the square and souks (where all the action is!) or you can take a petite taxi for less than £1.
We had 2 triple rooms which worked out at about £10 each per night which was excellent value. The rooms and bed linen were clean, albeit a bit on the old side, but what do you expect for a tenner? Rooms were air-conditioned which was essential! We noticed no smell in the corridors!!?? The staff are very willing to help but do struggle with English. The pool is small but clean and very refreshing. The breakfast was excellent...freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh bread, boiled eggs and the best pancakes we've ever had! The dining room is not air-conditioned so is a bit hot and a little noisy with the supermarket below...but the supermarket is brilliant for cold drinks and snacks and very handy!!
Would definately stay here again for the location and the price - and would definately visit Marrakech again, it's fantastic!!
