Historical Traveller Reviews of Riyad Al Moussika Hotel

Why stay anywhere else?

from MrsWilko
What a fantastic place to stay, and the service is excellent too.

We have just returned from 5 days in Marrakech and stayed at the Riyad Al Moussika. Like other reviewers, did wonder about it as we stepped out of the minibus into the little square and started walking down the side street. However, the 3 minute walk gave way to the grand front door and you step through into the first courtyard - which is beautiful - a painted wooden ceiling, moorish tiles and a plunge pool. There is another coutyard next door where breakfast and lunch are taken.

Our bedroom was off the library and was stylish and had its own loggia / balcony - which was a lovely place to sit for a pre-dinner drink or a refreshing glass of mint tea after a busy afternoon of sight-seeing.

A couple of things really stood out for us:

The food at the Riyad is very, very good indeed. The breakfast selection is a mini-banquet (juice, toast, eggs, pancakes, pasties, fruit salad) more food than either I or my wife could eat every morning. Usually on holiday, we would spend the days sight-seeing and skip lunch. However the lunch at the Riyad was definitely worth returning for. The three courses each day were very different and of fantasic quality, and although a 'set' lunch, the chef was able to adapt the menu each day to create something vegetarian for me.

The other thing that stood out was the service provided by the owner, Giovanni, and his team. Everyone was able to provide advice and help on where to eat, which restaurants were good or very good (or not so good); help with transport to and from the restaurants; help with organising sight-seeing. This included hiring a english speaking taxi-driver for the day for us, who could take us into the mountains and see some of the scenery, a Kasbah, a Berber house, villages, etc.

Overall, you are made to feel like a house guest in a private house (which you are!) but the level of service supporting that is akin to that in a 5 Star hotel.

I would recoomend the Riyad to anyone, without any reservations at all. We certainly plan to return.

Our holiday will be a treasured memory

My family and I, we were all, without exception, extremely impressed with everything that Riyad Al Moussika had to offer.

From our limited experience there was no doubt that none of the other restaurants that we tried matched the standard at al Moussika.
To find a truly beautiful "home" in which to stay with such a magical and captivating atmosphere together with high standards of service and attention to detail is one thing, but to couple that with catering excellence that was consistent from start to finish is a very rare commodity indeed.
A great achievement, we congratulate Mr Robazza, the owner, and his son, the Chef!

The only problem now is that we shall be using Al Moussika as our yardstick, wherever we stay, and I fear that it is going to be a very hard act to beat.

I want to thank and congratulate as well, the hard working and well mannered staff .

s pep-talk!

Think of palatial surroundings - the sound of fountains, birdsong, classical music in the background, enjoying a glass of wine on your private terrace and you have already arrived at the Riyad al Moussika! Having just returned from a week at the Riyad al Moussika we have thoroughly enjoyed a week of relaxation and being spoilt - the food, service, owner's hospitality and standard of accommodation were excellent.

The Riyad is centrally located and only just over a brisk 5 minutes walk from the Djemaa el-Fna. As first visitors to Morocco Giovanni's advice on our first morning was invaluable - so take time to listen and you will soon find that you do not need a map!

If you're a lover of Moroccan interiors then take an extra bag to bring all the ceramics, slippers, carpets, metalwork, materials, cushions, tassels......etc, home with you!

Giovanni's recommendations for dinner were very good - Le Pavillon (French) and Dar Zellige (Moroccan) - expect to pay approx. 500 dirhams per person inc. wine and also another set charge of 250 dirhams for the comfort of a taxi to take you from the riyad and pick you up from the restaurant for the return. Although we also ate at Le Marrakechi restuarant without any problems.

Riyad al Moussika is a relaxing haven within the Medina yet central for all the hustle and bustle that is Marrakech.

A real pleasure

from henrik6
It has been a real pleasure to spend with my wife a few days at the Riyad Al Moussika, which has been for us a valued oasis in the heart of Marrakech.
A most enjoyable place restored to its original antique splendour and enriched with the necessity of modern life.
We found all the rooms well appointed and decorated with great taste.
The food was delicious and the staff discreet and helpful.
The assistance I received when I had difficulties to connect my PC lap top with the internet was just one instance of efficiency.
I should thank Mr Robazza, the owner, you for the suggestions he gave us in matter of places to visit, sites to see and food to taste. We certainly benefited from his knowledge of the area and his friendly attitude.

My wife and I, we are looking forward to another occasion to renew the experience,

An oasis of peace and tranquility

from ManchesterDoris
Just back from a long weekend in Marrakesh, it was our first visit and so spent quite some time looking for somewhere to stay ...how lucky were we then to find Al Moussika! It was just the most perfect place. Admittedly, as the taxi driver guided us down the short alleyway to the front door, we were a little apprehensive but as soon as the front door opened our reservations were quickly allayed as we walked into the most stunning courtyard.

Attention appears to have been paid to every detail of the restoration and as well as the building itself, the tree in the courtyard attracts the birds which seem to sing all day and just add to the contrast of the outside world.

Breakfast and lunch are included in the price, we even arranged our days around going back for lunch as both the food and service was outstanding.

Its located to the south-east of the main square and only a 5 minute walk away. Being to the south of the city, the palaces are also easily accessible.

It may not be the cheapest place to stay in Marrakesh, but its definitely worth it!

A MUST in Marrakech!

from sechapin
My fiance and I stayed here for Thanksgiving, our first trip to Morocco. Riyad Al Moussika is absolute first-class acoomodation. The owner Giovanni makes it even better- he will give you tips on wonderful restauarants hidden away, the best shops, even help you get the best price on a carpet. A trip to the hammam is a must too- a truly unique experience. The rooms are beautiful, the hotel is pristine and the food excellent. Plus, it is situated right in the medina so you are in walking distance to all the sights and shops. We would love to come back soon!

Riyad Al Moussika is spectacular

from jeffry2006
Riyad Al Moussika is spectacular in every way, with extraordinary service, the best food in Morocco, and remarkable attention to detail.
The sense of luxury and complete comfort is evidenced throughout the property.
The host is a delight and a font of information about Marrakech. His staff is utterly professional, discreet, and devoted to making each guest feel completely comfortable.
Our stay at Al Moussika was the highlight of our trip through Morocco, and we look forward to returning as soon as possible.

Al Moussika is probably the most aesthetically pleasing

from Keith2006
We very much wanted you to say that our five days at the fabulous Al Moussika was just sublime. It is worth going to Marrakech just to spend some time at Riyad Al Moussika.
We have travelled extensively and I can honestly say it is extremely rare for us (whilst travelling) to look forward each day to returning to our hotel, boat etc. with such anticipation.

Al Moussika is probably the most aesthetically pleasing hotel/guest house we have ever been to and we were hugely impressed with the extraoridnary attention to detail and the end result is superb.

We want to thank all the staff for the extreme attentiveness, courtesy and kindness; all greatly appreciated. I do not mention them by name as to single out any one individual would not be fair; they were all terrific.
Last, but definitely not least, the food was excellent and Giovanni, the owner, must be extremely proud of his son's accomplishments.

We have recommended (and will continue to) Al Moussika to numerous friends and business colleages and, hopefully, some at least will pay a visit. Nan and I certainly hope to return.

incredibly beautiful place

from columnist
This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. It used to be the Marrakech residence of El Glaoui, the tyrannical ruler of Morocco, and the amazing restored mosaics, intricately carved stucco and extraordinary painted ceilings are testament to his ownership. Every vista is a delight.

Although the riyad is relatively small, there are three different rooms in which you can curl up with a book, listen to a CD or watch TV. There is even a grand piano in one of the sitting rooms. The roof terrace, though, is a bit of a disappointment.

Lunch is utterly delicious, some of the best food we ate in Marrakech. Breakfast is copious, though a bit leaden. Beware of drink prices: the bog-standard local wine is three times more expensive here than in most bars or restaurants in the city.

Take Giovanni's advice when you eat out in the evening. He gave us four different recommendations for our four nights there, all of which were sensational.

The staff are all very friendly and attentive. When I asked for a glass of water as we were leaving for the airport, they smilingly handed me a huge bottle to take with me, for free.

Ultimate perfection

from AngelaLewis
We stayed in the Riad for 6 nights in September. All I can say is that the service, food, ambience and every other small detail was executed with perfection! Giovanni is the perfect host. Very helpful in his suggestions of sights and restaurants. Nothing was ever too much trouble. When you first arrive until you leave one would think you had the Riad to yourselves. Attention to detail is unsurpassed. Every day you could wander around and find another room or area that have previously been undiscovered.

The breakfast and lunches were just some of the best food we have ever eaten. Presentation and service was excellent. The staff at the Riad are discreet but always on hand to serve drinks and order taxis etc..I would without doubt recommend this Riad to anyone.
