I was overwhelmed by the hospitality... the staff are extremely welcoming and make you feel at home. Everything from my driver to and from the airport to daily excursions to the atlas mountains was all organised by Riad Kniza. I particularly enjoyed the morroccon bath, waking up to the sound of birds chirping and spending my mornings on the rooftop with my book, morrocon tea and nothing but clear thoughts in my head. It was a truly wonderful experience, the serenity and calm about the place has made me feel totally rejuvenated.. it's been great for the soul... thank you Riad Kniza!

Secret Hideaway

The Riad Kniza was truly a special place to stay, I have been nowhere like it in all the years of travelling I have done. It is extremely personalised, the owners treat you like one of the family. The staff are very helpful & efficient in meeting any request. The rooms are beautiful and very well maintained. There are nice places to sit and relax if you don't want to stay in your room to eat or drink. We were there for 4 nights and had to change rooms 3 times but it was no inconvenience as the staff moved all our belongings & it was nice to see all the different rooms. I was a bit worried about there being no locks on the doors but they really aren't needed as it's more of a home than a hotel & there is a safety deposit box in the room. The rooms on the ground floor can get a bit noisy, but that's the only minor fault. I would recommend this Riad without hesitation for a real Moroccan experience.

Super efficient, but still very personal service

I returned last week from spending 5 nights at this marvellous establishment. With me was my wife - both of us returning to Marrakech, having previously stayed at the , over-rated apart from the gardens, La Mamounia hotel) - and four children (aged 19 to 26) who had never previously been to north-west Africa.

I travel a vast amount for my work, and can honestly report that I cannot recall a hotel which managed to combine such effortless efficiency of service with a genuinely personal service. All the staff without exception were both friendly AND assiduous to our demands (however eccentric - and especially when my wife was unwell for 24 hours).

Others have written about the charm of the rooms, both public and private, and the delightful roof garden, and of being an oasis of calm from the bustling nearby souk. I simply concur. One of the dining rooms has a fabulous collection of Moroccan pottery on display (a taster for the family antique shop 15 minutes walk away).

If I have one tiny grouse, it relates to the incessant piped music in the public rooms, which was both overly eclectic in taste and - after 5 nights - distinctly repetitive.

But that is really minor. Overall we all had a delightful stay. And my much-travelled children all concurred that this was the best hotel they had ever stayed in. And, you know, I am not far off agreeing.

A little perfect gem in the Medina

Not as well known (YET) as some of the obvious Riad's in Marakech, however, the family makes an incredible effort to make you feel spoiled, comfortable and a very happy customer. The family is well connected and has good local contacts and recommendations.

The family's antiqueshop outside the Medina is great and worth a visit.

Reading all the other reviews I do not feel as special anymore as we felt durig our visit, which was very special, as part of our honeymoon.

The Riad has been excellently refurbished to the best quality in style with past, culture, arts and tradition.

I congratulate Riad Kniza and wish to visit them again and wish them all the best.

Great Service and Surroundings

My wife and I spent four of our five nights in Marrakech at the Riad Kniza and wished we had booked the 5th at this lovely Riad. While the rooms and suits are docorated wonderfully it is the staff that maked this our favorite. Kamal picked us up at the train station and after we had settled in offered us a tour of the city in his car. This was not something we had contracted for and was simply one of the ways in which he and all the staff showed us a desire to make our stay a joy. We had two wonderful dinners in the Riad Kniza and enjoyed breakfast on the roof and in our room. I highly recommend the Raid Kniza for anyone making a trip to Marrakech, you will not be disappointed.

This was my second trip to Morocco. The first time was spent in a hotel. This time we chose Riad Kniza. Kamal and his family were so welcoming and really went out of their way to make this a truly memorable trip. The staff at the Riad were so pleasant - the service was excellent. The food - well, I am still paying for that by doubling the time at the gym! The Riad itself - a great place and I will certainly go back - which is more than I can say for the hotel!

The very well known family that own and run Riad Kniza in Marrakesh make every guest at their Riad feel totally welcome.
The service in every respect and the food are tailored to the guests needs, but in a quiet and unobtrusive manner.
Mohamed was a leading tour guide in Morrocco, having shown presidents and princes the history and geography of the region. He is also a renowned antique dealer.
You will feel like royalty in their lush, authentically decorated suites (all air conditioned!),and in the private den, being served any meal you desire.
My business stay required some follow up after I left Marrakesh, and Kamal efficiently went that extra mile to tie things up for me. This means a lot.
The location inside the Medina also provides an instant dose of real life in the commercial centre of Marrakesh every time you set foot out the door.

Not worth the money

My wife and I stayed recently at the Riad Kniza in Marrakesh. We were expecting second to none treatment, and unfortunately we didn't receive it. The staff was considerate but not very professional. We were supposed to have free transfer to and from the airport but out driver dropped us quite far from the entrance of the airport because he didn't want to pay 5 Dhirams (45 cents). My wife and i were left carrying all of our luggage to the entrance in hte heat. Although this might seem trivial, this is not the kind of service that one expects from such an expensive place. There are many wonderful Riads in Marrakesh. We also stayed at Riad Farnatchi and it was far superior.

A city hideaway - Perfect

From the moment we emailed Riad Kniza to enquire about booking a room to the moment we left, we enjoyed a level of service and hospitality that allowed us to completely relax and enjoy ourselves. This was important because we had just got married and had so many other things to worry about in the preceding months.

Kamal and his staff collected us from the airport at a very late hour (1.00am), arranged a one-to-one tour of Marrakech (very helpful when faced with only three days in town) and made us feel so welcome that we didn't want to leave.

Based in the Old Town, the Riad is an unassuming building with very little to advertise it's presence save for a small sign next to a strong looking wooden door.

You enter the house to a small internal courtyard - just big enough to allow daylight but small enough to keep out the heat. The house has been renovated in a very traditional style (compare it with some of the large tourist sites) and to a very high standard. All the rooms public and private are delightful and the attention to detail is superb.

We spent long evenings and one long afternoon, on the roof terrace. From there you can look out over the rooftops and be away from the bustling city. With the evening meals, provided you have asked in advance, you get delicious local cuisine.

Riad Kniza is an ideal base from which to explore the city and in which to relax after a long day lost in the soukhs.

On the whole highly recommended.

The Perfect Marrakech Experience

I stayed at the Riad Kniza at the beginning of a very long journey, which included among other things backpacking for three months around India. The Riad was just the right way to start such a trip, and by the end of my three months, I was really missing the attention I received there! The hotel itself is beautiful and quiet, and the rooms are all warm and unique in their own way. The service was on par with the finest hotels I have stayed in across the world. And the food was by far the best I found in Marrakech, on any of my visits. I can not recommend this hotel enough. If you are looking for the perfect stay in Marrakech, then you must seek out the Riad.

WOW -- The True Riad Experience

When first planning our vacation to Morocco we were asked by our agency if we wanted to stay in "Western Hotels" or "Moroccan Riads" and our answer was to experience Morocco the way locals do, so we opted for the Riads.

We were extremely lucky that our agency selected Riad Kniza as our place to stay in Marrakech, as I cannot explain in words what this place is like. The owners, who are antique dealers, have decorated the Riad with nice pieces of Moroccan art. The people at the Riad are extremely nice and knowledgeable about their culture and are willing to share their insites (Mohamed....this is about you!). Also, the service and hospitality is second to none....and how can we forget the delicious meal we had at the Riad.

If you want to see the beauty behind the walls at the Medinas (Old Cities) in Morocco, staying at a Riad will afford you just that. We enjoyed the best of the Moroccan hospitality at Riad Kniza, and would recommend it to anybody that is looking at visiting Marrakech. You can see their website at ------.

Top Local Tips for Marrakech

cheap eating A good place to try is Chez Chegrouni in the main sqare (near the souks) and has a green awning. the food was great. you get a menu (in french and english) and you are given a pen and paper to write down your order.it was really busy but the service was excellent

Don't look lost! When in Marrakesh, don't stop and don't get out a map if you can help it! There are very few street names in the old Medina, which makes it almost impossible to follow a map anyway! Just be prepared to get lost and enjoy it! Watch out for so called guides who will show you the way with some sites along the way and then ask for a ridiculous amount of money! They can get angry if you refuse to pay. Look out for the scam of giving you Euro's back instead of Dirhams, they never add up and they are often mixed in with worthless Dirhams that look like Euro coins>

The Medina Dont forget that this is a Muslim country. Alcohol is available in the Medina, but please keep it in the restaurants or your hotel/riad. Some places do not keep large stocks of beer/wine and even less spirits. If the bar scene is what you want, then the Medina isnt really for you, stick to the New Town to the east of the Medina.
