Historical Traveller Reviews of Riad Jonan Hotel

Fabulous Holiday!

from Dania74
I have just read the review 'Location, Location, Location' and have to say that I TOTALLY disagree.

Having read all the reviews previously written on trip advisor we decided that Riad jonan was the place we wanted to stay for our first trip to Morocco. We were not disappointed. We spent a blissful 11 days relaxing in the beautiful 'Riad Jonan'.

From the start of our holiday we were warmly welcomed by the owners Howard and Martyn. And for the duration of our stay we had nothing but friendly and hospitible service from everyone. The staff were always on hand and nothing was ever too much trouble. Whether it was bringing you refreshing mint tea on the roof terrace or making a reservation for you at a restaurant.
The breakfasts were wonderfully fresh and the meals we had at the riad were fantastic - Hania the cook is a real credit to them as are the other two members of staff

It really is only a short walk to the main square - 15 minutes tops!
And after a crazy day shopping in the souks , I always looked forward to 'returning home' beause that is how Howard, Martyn and the staff made you feel.

All I can say is go and see for yourself...I'm positive you won't be disappointed. Im very much looking forward to going to Marrakech again and will definately be staying at Riad Jonan.

Fantastic week-end break

from manhandy
Just returned from a long week-end break at Riad Jonan and can say that the reviews lived up to expectations.
From the first contact by e-mail they were very efficient and answered my e-mails almost immediatley.
The riad was just as it said in the reviews ,an Oasis of calm in the frantic Kasbah. The house is in traditional Moroccan style with modern amenities. Staff are very friendly and always available. The owners were also on hand and gave great information on what to see and do, so maximising our short time to the best. Breakfast was great with a good choice. not just continental. Best of all was the location, easy to find, just off the main Kasbah road and within walking distance of all the sights.
Hope to return in the winter when temperatures are more comfortable . Great time!

coldest beers in the whole of Marrakech

from chungking97
The Riad was beautiful and the d├ęcor amazing which meant having to reign in any kleptomaniac tendencies when walking past all the lovely rugs, vases perfectly placed. Rooms are a good size and again decorated beautifully. Location was great just a short walk from the main square, and other attractions but far away enough from the main tourist drag.
>Breakfasts plentiful and delicious, staff very friendly and helpful, the two owners were full of information, handy hints, do's and don'ts. They were happy to assist in booking you anything from trip to the Atlas Mountains (to be recommended) to a table at the latest restaurant. The friendly atmosphere and the ease with which the other guest mingled with each other is testament to effort that has gone into into creating a relaxed and chilled environment with a marvellous atmosphere.

Wonderful stay!

We stayed here and had a wonderful first time visit to Marrakech.
Martin, one of the owners was really helpful explaining the do's and don'ts of Marrakech, and had lots of great excursions/days out on offer,- as a result we packed so much into our three night stay.
The best thing we did was have a day out with Kabbour in the Atlas mountains,he was such a fantastic guide,- I'll never forget the experience.
Riad Jonan itself is really comfortable and welcoming with everything you wiill need. It's a beautiful environment to relax in after a busy day in Marrakech. Also the breakfasts were really lovely too.
I just loved the little of Morocco we saw,and staying at Riad Jonan really made that valuable difference.
I really want to go back again, and explore some more.
Moroccan people are great and their country is so diverse, Riad Jonan is a great first stop for your discovery.

I can't praise the place enough - it had everything.

The Riad was great, furnished in a typical Morrocan style, it was clean, the food was great and Howard (one of the owners )was a fantastic host, enthralling us with anecdotes about the country, giving great advice on what to do and where to eat and finally organising our transport.

In just 4 days we seemed to do everything - the Medina, the Souks, the Atlas Mountains, Les Bains de Marrakech and even a bit of sunbathing at Nikki Beach - all to be recommended.

We had a great time.

An oasis of calm!

from EssexFlossie
Just back from a wonderful holiday in Marrakech which was enhanced 100% by the stay at Jonan. Martin and Howard are the most wonderful hosts and the atmosphere in the riad is wonderfully chilled. The location is perfect, just a short walk to the main square and other attractions but set in the heart of the 'old' town, making it so much more a true Moroccan experience. Martin is full of info about local attractions and history and sorts out taxis, restaurant bookings etc which means you dont have to do anything except enjoy yourself! The Riad itself is beautifully traditional and clean and the breakfast area is absolutely lovely.

I would thoroughly recommend Riad Jonan as a place to stay!!!!!

Gay Travellers Beware!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Riad Jonan is listed in the Spartacus Gay Guide as a recommended place to stay in Marrakech. I sent an email requesting if certain dates were available and the 'note' that I got their name from the guide. The email response was very rude and stated "we do not cater for the gay traveller". I have not stayed at the hotel... and amazed by the reponse.

Apparently Riad Jonan is stuck in the year 1206 ... not 2006!

from Nif9
May 2006...It WAS OUR FISRT VISIT TO MARRAKECH AND RIAD JONAN WAS A PERFECT CHOICE. GREAT LOCATION...get a petit taxi almost to the door or the owners will arrange a transfer from the airport if you e mail them from their website (we didn't find this out untill after we arrived as we booked with lastminute). EXTREMELY FRIENDLY STAFF and Martin (the owner) was an absolute wealth of knowledge about Marrakech, things to do, where to go, booking restaurants, tips etc.. WE ASKED ALOT OF QUESTIONS AND HE WAS ALL TOO WILLING TO HELP US OUT. BREAKFASTS WERE 'JUST RIGHT' IN THE COURTYARD...best yoghurt I've ever had! SPOTLESSLY CLEAN ROOMS AND EN SUITE BATHROOMS, a really lovely place to stay, we would definitley recommend it to all ages, and we look forward to going back there ourselves one day!

The only place to stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned from a great week in Marrakech staying at the wonderful English owned Riad Jonan. Firstly we should thank trip advisors and its reviewers as without them we would never have found this little gem!
Martyn was the perfect host and always around to give advise on what to see and more importantly where to eat, even booking the restaurants for us - all of which where spot on and added to our amazing experience.
Riad Jonan is located in the centre of the city and an easy walk of all the places of interest, but still manages to be an oasis of calm and peace.
Two musts while you are there are one of Martyn's amazing dinner and also a trip to the Atlas mountains with the Raid's guide Karmour for a day you will never forget.
I really cannot fault Riad Jonan or any of its staff who where all welcoming and warm and spoke good English, and would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Marrakech.

Thumbs up - a fabulous Hotel

from mummyu
Having read so many other postings about this little oasis of calm, I am delighted to state that Riad Jonan not only lived up to its promise but far exceeded it!
Situated in the heart of the old town, this hotel is beautifully decorated throughout and you immediately feel as though you are a guest in someones home rather than an impersonal face passing through. From the lovely fresh coffee on arrival through to the fabulous meal cooked to our requirements on our first night, the food and service could not be faulted and to have the benefit of English hosts meant that we were given great advice on how to make the most of our weekend stay. I would highly recommend this hotel and this city.
