We stayed at this hotel last week, and while a lovely hotel, there was an element of Fawlty Towers about! It took a ridiculously long time to check in and at no stage were the facilities of the hotel or our board basis confirmed to us. We struggled with our air conditioning and even reported it to reception, who promised to send someone up but no one appeared soo we finally went to bed - only to be told when we asked again the next morning that we needed to open our window as the air- conditioning doesn't work during the winter season!! Breakfast was another happy(!) scrum where once you managed to fill your plate, the next initiative test was finding a table - if you missed the first sitting at breakfast, then you would find a variety of tables in various states of disarray. On a good day, a waiter came over, brushed the crumbs off the table onto the chairs and then waved at us to sit down, at which stage cutlery appeared for one of us, and I was the lucky recipient of first a saucer, then 10 mins later a cup but no spoon! When I asked for tea, a pot was taken off the elderly couple at the table next to us and milk was no where to be found! While the waiting staff were lovely and friendly, reception seemed to have an air of general apathy and disenchantment, or certainly with those non french speaking visitors. We booked a day trip and at the time reception insisted we pay the deposit immediately to reserve our places as there were 10 other people from the hotel going.... only to be told at 10pm the night before the trip they had to cancel it as we were the only 2 people on it! To add insult to injury the lady on reception did tell me in a v aggrieved tone she had been trying to reach me all day - how inconsiderate of me to have been out and about on my holiday! The only time we saw a little wave of efficiency was on our last day, when perhaps all the staff were hoping for a tip! The grounds are pretty and very peaceful- so if you don't plan to spend much time in the hotel (apart from by the poolside) then stay, however be warned the service is appalling and food not much better! The pool is pristine, but that may be because the water is the temperature of an iceberg - not kidding, standing in the water my legs went numb!
