Historical Traveller Reviews of Dar Silsila Hotel

Dar Silsil, fantastic

from paradise_llost
I stayed at Dar Silsila in late October with my 7 year old son.
Dar Silsila and the hospitality and attention to detail that Jean-Patrick and his wonderful friendly, helpful staff showed was utterly faultless. We stayed there for four nights in all. Dar Silsila is well-placed for easy access to the main square. It is beautifully decorated and the web-site accurately portrays the rooms as they are. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in a small, friendly and restful ryad.

Peaceful Haven

from Harvs
What a peaceful riad to retreat to at the end of each day from the noise and bustle outside. John Patrick made us feel most welcome in his house at all times. He was always very helpful and informative. The rooms in the riad were beautifully decorated and furnished with many items that JP had acquired throughout his numerous travels. His staff were among the most friendly we have ever met. Other guests had sampled his gastranomic evening meals and we were only sorry that we had pre booked our restaurants before leaving the UK. This is a riad not to be missed out on and we will certainly be returning at some time.

Could not be better!

Dar Silsila is a gem! Jean-Patrick can tell fascinating stories about rebuilding it if you ask, but he is never intrusive. As a woman travelling alone, he provided excellent advice about where to go and not go. My room was so exotic that I took pictures of it, and it was immaculately clean. If you let them know in advance they will arrange for a driver to meet you at the train or plane and take you directly to the Dar (it would be very hard to find any Riad or Dar on your own the first time). No need to use a booking service, you can contact the Dar directly at [--] or go the the web site at [--]

a little riad of calm

from HayleyGirardier
we stayed at this beautiful riad for three days in the African suite in November. Nothing was too much trouble from Jean Patrick he booked us a table at a fantastic resturant..which we loved, we grately appreicated all his help. Aisha(staff) is wonderful and so kind when i got hit by a bike while out in the mad streets, this riad was our saving grace at the end of each day. Do watch out when eating out the terraces in the square, i was so ill on the way home, its so mad, busy and not relaxing when your out and about!!!! hounded by stall holders etc..it was a rest to come home! pity we couldnt bring this Riad with us :o)

Fantastic Riad with a wonderful host!

We stayed in Dar Silsila in the heat of the summer in a bustling Marrakech - Jean Patrick's Riad is like an oasis of calm and relaxation after a day in the souks! Our room was beautiful and overlooked the internal courtyard and had great air conditioning.

The beautiful surroundings are complemented by fantastic service from Jean Patrick and his staff. Jean Patrick took the time to advise us as first times vistors to the city of the places that we should definately make time to see as well as advising us of places to eat. We were staying in Marrakech at the start and end of a trip around Morocco so time was quite tight. All his recommendations were great and made our stay even better. On our final evening Jean Patrick booked us a table at a fabulous restaurant which really finished our trip with another great memory. His local knowledge really helped us out.

Another highlight was having friends who happened to be in Marrakech at the same time as us over for to Dar Silsila for a traditional meal. The food was delicious and we ate in the candlelight courtyard at a beautifully set table next to the fountain.

From the great breakfasts to start the day, to relaxing mint teas on the terrace in the afternoon the special touches in this Riad make it a brilliant place to stay. I've been telling everyone I know to stay there and I would definately go again!

Fabulous Experience

from Sacha18
Simply wonderful. I wanted a week away to relax and enjoy. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner Jean Patrick, who after discovering that I only ate kosher meat went to the other side of town to get some merguez so that Aisha could include me in the superb evening meal of cous cous. The rooms are lovely with lots of small things taken into consideration, JP travelled extensively before opening his dream riyad and knows just what to do to make his guests feel at home. I had rose petals on my bed with vases of fresh flowers & candles abounding. Simply wonderful.

An exceptional stay

from MichaelHayward
We stayed at Dar Silsila for three nights in October. This is without doubt the best value accomodation that we have stayed in. It is a 5 star guest house, at 3 star prices. There are only 4 rooms of which we stayed in 2 of during our stay (The African, and the Menzhe room). Both of them are exceptionally well presented, and individually styled.
However the best thing about your stay will be the personal service that you receive from Jean Patrick and his staff. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We would also highly recommend having an evening meal here - it was the best meal that we had all week not only because of the food, but also the setting and having your own private waiter.

s great!

I stayed in Marrakech with my sister for a long weekend and had a fantastic time. This riad is very central- step out the door and you are in the souk. Just a few minutes down the road is the square where we spent many an hour sipping mint tea.
Jean Patrick and the staff are very friendly and Jean Patrick is always helpful if you are unsure how to prioritise your sightseeing. It wasn't very expensive and the riad is like an oasis from the bustle of the market. The roof terrace is lovely and a great place to spend part of the evening, sipping some wine (also reasonably priced). I really cannot fault the entire stay. The room (we stayed in the African suite) was really spacious, relaxing and comfortable.
I would suggest that you ask for an airport transfer or get a cab to bring you as close as possible to the riad and give some small change to someone to show you the way. It's not difficult once shown, but is down a little passage and isn't the easiest to find at first.
Spend all you money in the wonderful souks as you can't spend it when you get to the airport.
All in all, I would definitely go back again and have recommended to my friends that they stay in Dar Silsila.

Beautiful Riad

from bobby3
We decided to book Dar Silsila after the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor & after going there with such high expectations we weren't disappointed.

The riad is in an excellent location, right in the heart of the medina and very close to the souks and the main square.

The courtyard and roof terrace were both stunning and very peaceful, perfect for relaxing after a busy day in the medina. The room was also beautifully presented, clean & very comfortable.

The owner Jean -Patrick is an excellent and most accomodating host and was always on hand to help us with very helpful suggestions on restaurants and things to do. He really does go out of his way to ensure that your stay at Dar Silsila is one that you'll remember!

Absolutely Perfect!

from martin_akhilesh
Jean Patrick was the perfect host. He greeted us at the airport and drove us through the winding streets of the Old Medina. However, once we stepped inside the door, we entered an area of pure tranquility. What made our stay nice was that whenever we returned from our sightseeing, there was hot mint tea and biscuits to greet us. Also, our friendly host was very familiar with respectable tourist agencies and was very knowledgeable about restaurants, shops, and sights. The rooms were elegant, clean, and very cozy. It was our oasis in the desert! If you are heading to Marrakech, this is THE place to stay. You won't regret it one moment!
