Perfect Service And Slightly Antiquated Rooms

I had the pleasure of staying at the Royal Mansour in Casablanca and, on request, am readily prepared to give a review. The things that stand out most in my mind are the excellent service in the beautiful lobby extending out into a sun drenched but pleasantly cool atrium. The room itself, although slightly antiquated and somewhat full, is well furnished with an excellent bathroom.
On Sunday I asked for some traveling advice and not only was I furnished with that, but an excellent hotel room was arranged for me in Marrakech even though there was a big festival on there, a new rental car was brought in and maps, directions and even someone to guide us out to the freeway to Marrakech! All this was arranged swiftly, efficiently and very economically while we were enjoying a nice cup of cappuccino in the lobby. High praise for the service! Definitely a reason for me to join the Meridien Moments club, and -generally- when on a trip I tend to check for Meridien availability first!

Top Local Tips for Casablanca

Rick's Cafe Don't write off Rick's Cafe as a tourist trap! The restaurant serves wonderful food in a terrific setting. (And yes, the pianist played 'As Time Goes By"!)

Trains from Casa Airoport to Casa Voyageur station during the day take the train from the airport to the Casa Voyageurs main station. 35 Dirham per person, second class is fine for that distance and train. From main station can take taxi to hotels for around 30 Dirham...this certainly beat the 500 Dirham the hotel charged or the 250 Dirham which is the going rate for taxis.

Little Taxis There are "Grand Taxis" which are large white Mercedes often used to go from town to town. They will charge you perhaps 10 Euros for even the smallest trip within Casa. the "Petit Taxis" should, in theory at least, all have meters. You can get anywhere within Casa for 5 Euros or a l0t less - despite the outrageous charge the drivers may first ask. Also, a lot of the tourist stuff you see in the Medina you can buy here in the USA on E-Bay for less than half what they tourist shop owners want.
