The hotel is set in beautiful grounds, below the famous Mount Kenya. When I was staying there for a prolonged period of time, the hotel was in need of an update (but charming all the same!), which I now believe has been conducted! There are many cottages set around the grounds, which are private, romantic and cosy and you will get a log fire each night. The staff are very friendly, helpful and polite although every thing runs on a typically slow Kenyan place in the bar! The choice of food in the restaurant is fantastic too. The hotel is set inside a very small game reserve, which also has an animal sanctuary that you can visit. There is not much to do or see at Nanyuki. The weather is unpredicatble too, so make sure you take wet weather and warm clothing. I would suggest that you stay here for one or two nights on your way to the larger game reserves in the Samburu District. The hotel is really a lovely experience, but by other hotel standards, it is quite basic, ie. no televisions in the rooms. However, this is the norm for Kenyan hotels outside of Nairobi! The hotel is also safe, as there are guards on the gate that also roam the grounds. Also, make sure that you visit the Trout Tree Restaurant, approximately 5 minutes drive from the hotel - the food and prices or amazing!!
