Top Local Tips for Nairobi
Want to feel safe? Get a local chap with a car! Getting a good driver/guide for the city is money well spent. Contact a reputable booking agency (reception desk may help) to make arrangements & get picked up at the hotel; it cost us $80 to hire a very nice, experienced guy with a Toyota for the whole afternoon & evening. Not only did he take us to the right places but was very cautious about routes and locations. It was also possible to discuss with him a wide range of topics and learn about a number of things Kenyan.
Hire a Driver from airport There is an official taxi stand departing the airport. Hire your taxi here. If you like the driver and vehicle, take his card and he will be happy to pick you up and take you wherever you like for the duration of your trip. If you dont like it, try the next taxi/vehicle you are given from your hotel concierge. All taxi pricing is pretty much the same as there is so much competition.
beware the traffic just allow sufficient time for excursions or airport transfers
