Visiting the Slave Forts There are some escorted tours available from Accra to the Cape Coast, Elmina and the rain forest. We don't advise taking one of these, as the cost per person is exorbitant. There isn't really a thriving tourist business. Hire a car from a reputable international company. You are not allowed to drive so must also hire a driver. This is a much cheaper way to see the forts for three or four people, as you set your own agenda, with just the right amount of time at each location and your choice of lunch stop! (We recommend the Elmina Beach Hotel for good value lunches and an amazing view.) One more point...the Ghanaian people are absolutely lovely. They are friendly, interesting, good humoured and really interested in the "obruni".
