Some bits of African Village are great, the poolside bar, the cocktails, the food (in general) the local entertainment - great, the location, many interesting guests. Downside, the rooms are very basic with the company of interesting wildlife, the hassle around Bakau. But it feels more African then any of the other hotels we've used.

Rooms were very basic. The electricity kept going off and the back up generator was out of order, the whole place seemed very noisy especially the noise on the tin roofs. There were a lot of bugs in the rooms and in the pool. Staff were friendly but the reps were very unhelpful. I have been to the Gambia many times and this is the worst hotel I have stayed at.

Awful Be extremely fir and carry your own bags otherwise it will cost you a small fortune even before you get there

'Bumsters' It's well worth getting one of the local lads as a guide. This stops other people harrassing you. Just say 'I've already got a friend thankyou' and they will leave you alone. Definately worth having someone to show you the real deal though, you are safer with a guide and youe experiences will be so much better with local knowledge.

The local attractions I highly recommend trying the crocidile pool and the monkey park these are must see's. I also recommend going on some of the trips the hotel offers as they give an opportunity to see what the local community is all about.
