t fault the place!
from mrs-aggyA Most Enjoyable Week 21.01.09
from LiverpoolNanThe restaurant was finished before we arrived (21st Jan)
The food was hot with plenty of choice. Temperature of food constantly checked by management.
There was a sunbed everymorning waiting for us (look after the staff and they will look after you!)
The staff on the bars, restaurant and by the pool can't do enough to make your stay enjoyable
Good value winter holiday
from northern_birdsBeware...........................
from Diver_Dave_8Whilst waiting to leave for home my wife and I must have witnessed at least 5 people complaining to reception about what appeared to me money issues i.e. unexpected charges.
The other problem was that between 17:30 - 19:00 no food or drink was available unless you paid for it.
Not a bad Hotel but some serious scams going on. If you go be aware and keep your wits about you.
As for my wife and I four times are enough and we have no intention of ever returning to Sharm El Sheik.
Lovely Naama Bay
from JustJustinaCheap and Cheerful!
from Shelley40WalesThe walk to the restaurant was a bit too much, as the AI restaurant wasn't open. Although the restaurant was nice and the staff are so friendly. We didn't have to queue for a drink as this was bought to our table by Mohammed, and we seemed to have a never ending glass of wine on tap! The staff were marvellous and nothing was too much trouble for them. A welcoming smile, a bit of banter and we found them very friendly. Treat as you would like to be treated. I did get a bad stomach for a few days, although this stopped as soon as it had started, so wasn't nice but didn't spoil the time there. You can get stuff from the chemist opp the hotel and it worked.
The pool bar was ok, but the AI part of that was very lacking. I have stayed at AI before and the drinks and food were not very appertising, although yet again the staff were brilliant, and would bring your drinks to you. The downside of the pool is that you did have to join the party of folk who got up at the crack of dawn to get a sunbed! This is a pain! The pool was freezing, but was ok once in.
BAD POINTS- The flies are a nightmare and the mosquito's. Do not leave the bathroom door open as the vent in the bathroom was the service vent and this is where they were coming from. But if you asked at reception they sent someone to spray your room and they gave us a spray to use as extra. So if you tell them there is a problem they do help.
Tummy problems.
As on most AI I have been on there are a few undesirable people who tend to give UK and AI a bad name. They were drunk all the while and were noisy at night, with no consideration for those who just wanted to chill. There was no need when they could have sat in reception or at the bar, but loud music and swearing until 3 and 4 am is not very fair to others. I find when there are cheap deals then it does attract sometimes the wrong crowd, but this is to be expected?
Overall we both enjoyed the holiday, the staff, the hotel. It was a cheap away break and you did get what you paid for. If you wanted 5* then you would need to pay to get that, so what we paid and what we got were very reasonable. The weather was great, the food was fine, the restaurant was fine, and the staff were all brilliant. So all in all I would go back again.
Dont do All Inclusive!
from gutfeelingGOOD
The room was very nice - very clean - with a balcony overlooking the pool. Cannot fault the room.
Weather was very good -hot and sunny every day, however the sun does dissapear around 1530ish.
The location is very good a 15 min walk to Naama Bay. Naama Bay has a nice selection of bars and restaraunts -we ate out every night -food very nice but same price as England some slightly more.
BAD
Bar
The A/I didnt include the Rossetta Bar (even for the welcome meeting which was held there). The jasmine 'bar' was just a reception - we tried it one evening and never bothered again - there was no music and no atmosphere at all and very smoky. Also unless you like beer the drinks are horrible had the worst Pina Conalda I have EVER had and been to 10 different countries!!!
Beach
The beach is about 15 mins walk away and drinks etc are not A/I.
Food/Restaurant
It was a good 10 min walk from The Jasmine part.
There was quite a selection of food but it was the same EVERY DAY and alot of it wasnt covered and there were always alot of flies everywhere so not very hygenic.
We had omelette every day for breakfast as this was the only thing cooked fresh. There is a tiny toaster which takes ages and there was always a que for it. Everything else was disgusting.
At lunch we normally had pasta as again this is cooked fresh-this was quite nice although the pasta was hard!
We only had dinner once on our first night and then ate out every night as the food was luke warm and had no taste and the atmosphere was just like a canteen with people pushing in front of you etc. We checked there every night before going out and it was always the same food - potatoes chicken beef and various salads and cakes with flies hovering around.
You also had to que at the bar to get drinks to go with your meal.
We were ill with stomach problems on and off too.
POOL
Had to get up 0730 every day to make sure got a sun bed as the beds were usually taken by 0745ish! There were not enough beds for the amount of people staying at the hotel.
There are flies everywhere all the time which get very annoying!
The snacks are the same every day - Croissants, cake and pizza in the morning (none of which very nice) and chips, rolls and chicken bites in the afternoon which they start cooking at about 1400 and leave out in the open till they get put out at 1630!
As others have mentioned the bar staff are quite slow and dont even look at you when serving you.
We didnt find anyone friendly here, they were only friendly when trying to sell you something. (However the room cleaner was friendly and pleasant)
Airport
This is not relevant to the hotel but gave us a bad start to the holiday -when we arrived at the airport we were told we had to pay a visa for £12 each-it is partly our faults for not looking into this but we paid it and then found out from another couple that you only need this if you are doing excursions to anywhere out of Sharm eg Cairo - which we were not doing. I tried to get our money back but it was too late. This annoyed us as we were misled by the person on the desk. We later found out most other on our flight had also paid this when they didnt need to!
We did not have transfers. Trying to get a taxi outside the airport was quite scary and stressful, about 4 drivers surrounded us and said they wanted £15 from us we told them no after someone inside had offered one for £12 we tried to go back inside but they kept hassling us. Eventually a driver said £12 but then after putting our cases on the roof of a taxi insisted on £15 we said no out of principle and then gave him a £20 note and he gave me £4 change and 1 euro -we spent about 15 mins arguing untill we got the correct change. This was a horrible experience the taxi driver was aggressive and rude.
The taxi from the hotel to airport was £10.
Overall I would reccomend this hotel only for a self catering holiday. Namma Bay has some nice restaraunts and bars but the locals do hassle you alot.
Brand new......maybe a few years ago
from doolyukWhen we arrived we were taken to our room 2507....which was clean....although I was expecting a new hotel not cracked floor tiles and shoddy workmanship filling in between tiles....Next morning we decided to look around. The main pool was not even tiled yet but was filled with the water and there was so much dirt at the bottom....yet our rep didn't even know this....great, as I would have thought this may be a health and safety issue.....and the buffet restaurant is not even open yet, but the a la carte did open during our second week (not worth the visit in my opinion but you may disagree).....so to put you in an all inclusive hotel where the restaurants were not even open yet is beyond me.....especially when you had to go to the rosetta for meals.....which our tour operator did not want to have a contract with.....very odd. There was also building works every morning at 7am waking us up behind the back of the Jasmine club.....
Bottled water you can not get.....4 star? you would expect to get it when you asked for it....instead you have to use a water filter by the poolside which is open from 10am and is in direct sunlight.....unbelieveable. However, you can get sunbeds at any time of day by the smaller of the Jasmine pools near to the reception. With regards to the food......we only ate in two nights and spent the other 12 days out in naama bay. If you go to the chinese to the right of the hilton fayrouz and ask for a frequent diners discount card you can use this at all of the 6 gazala beach restaurants and the discount increases each time you use it. As we ate out most nights and used our hand sanitiser all of the time we were never ill once. We would recommend going to a pharmacy as soon as you arrive and ask for some Antinal which should only cost 10LE (£1 approx) just in case as immodium is not effective over there.
The beach....we didn't use but we did use the public and paid 10LE each for a sunbed and it was unbeliveably quiet. But walk past the beach to the jetty by the hilton and this seems to be the best place for snorkelling....,plenty of clown fish, star fish, trigger fish, rays, and my first scorpion fish
For those with walking difficulties....I def would not recommend this hotel for the distance you will need to walk to get to the buffet restaurant at the rosetta. If and when the jasmin buffet restaurant opens...it should not be a problem. However, for those going in the early summer, expect staff who have no idea what they are doing....and managers sitting on their arses watching staff. The only ones who seemed to know what they were doing were those by the poolside bar at the main pool and Ahmed on reception. (the ice-cream is not part of the AI and is 12LE each)
As for trips.....my husband spent a good week diving with Emperor (located next door to the rosetta) and non-divers can go along on the trips. We did Valley of the kings in Luxor by booking our own flights with egyptair and using Real Life Egypt for a private tour guide for the two of us and saved quite a bit compared to the operator prices. To get to the airport and back that day we used a british taxi woman called Alison Purkiss who is mentioned in some of the forums for £10 return and she was always on time and does do the excursions reasonably cheap as well.
I know this review isn't great but hopefully by April when you start going to the hotel things will have improved.....but I personnally wouldn't bother with the AI option. B & B may seem more expensive but if you book the Hilton of the Jolie Ville which we will do next year you will probably have a much better experience. This is our second holiday in Sharm (we stayed at the Garden Palms last year), and if this had been our first holiday here we probably would have been put off from coming back. Don't forget to take your money with you and exchange it out there as we got 8.5 to the £ rather than the 7.2 back home.
We were on the Newcastle flight home which got delayed by 24hrs and were put up in the Maritime next to the airport....a much nicer AI option but not in walking distance to Naama bay if this is where you wish to be.
awfull the worst 2 weeks ever
from ourthoughts99This was the worst holiday ever don't be fooled if you get told that the hotel is new, what is there is is far from new and the rest of it is still being built. We had to use the sister hotel for our meals which were luke warm and after getting badly ill we did not use. The food didn't look edible nor did it taste nice after getting ill we went in2 nama bay to the hard rock or tfi's this cost us a fortune but we couldn't bring ourselves to eat the food in the hotel after getting ill. Their idea of cleaning is rinsing things of under the tap, we don't call this very hygienic. The cleaner kept hassling us for our comments form (in other words a tip) a few days before we were due to leave we kept telling him he could have it when we left but he didn't give up, every 5-10 mins he'd be knocking and it carried on the next day aswell. If you don't pay the staff for a sunbed you won't get one this we felt was unfair as we didn't think that we'd have to pay for everything as we were all inclusive. If you didn't hand out tips you didn't get anything. The bar was in the reception which wasn't very big and was only open from 7-11pm (even bars at home open l8r than that). We have been on all inclusive holidays b4 where all inclusive meant all inclusive and it normally lasts all day and late in2 the night thats not the case here all inclusive is only between selected times during the day and between 11pm+7am you can't even get as much as a glass of water.
The beach was ruined our hotel only owned a small part and the sunbeds had no space between them it was also shaded you won't see the sun on the beach. Nama bay itself terrified us the people shout abuse at you, pull you and they don't like it when you say no i'd advise you not to go there at all but if you do don't say anything. If they say about a business card RUN this is to get you to stop they dragged us in a small room with about 4 of them we were lucky to get out. We went on one of the trips to see the pyramids and I got gropped by children (that's not right?). snorkelling isn't worth paying for. The only good thing about the holiday was the people we met. Some of the staff were nice but only for money.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY IT SEEMS A GOOD DEAL BUT ONCE YOU'VE PAID FOR THE TABLETS YOU HAVE TO TAKE FOOD OUT DRINKS YOU'D BE BETTER OF GOING TO THE BAHAMAS IT WOULD PROBABLY WORK OUT CHEAPER.
WE ARE GLAD TO BE BACK HOME AND DEFINATLY WON'T BE GOING BACK AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we wouldn't even send our worst enemy out there.
Very dissapointed Lisa and Dave, Devon
good hotel dont expect all inclusive
from adanddaTop Local Tips for Sharm El Sheikh
Upset stomach in Egypt Go to a pharmacy as soon as you arrive and pay around 10LE for Antinal.......as Immodium does not work over here. I never needed to use it once but I did the first time I travelled to Sharm and it all cleared up within 2 4hours
Panorama Sharm Its a MUST!!! We absolutely loved this place..and been there evry night. its located at the end of the main high street in Naama Bay and its got beautiful view on the Sharm..you can have a drink there and smoke shisha enjoying great Arabic music...
SCUBA DIVING Be careful which operator you use, there are massive differences in safety as we found out after almost dying in a diving incident
