Having arrived at 4.30am after flying through night, we were v tired! On arrival we were told they did not have a reservation, I showed them my voucher and booking reference but they said they could not check us in! It was our first family holiday abroad and we were deverstated!! We were told that we were very lucky and we could stay at their sister hotel Royal Grand Azure which was 5* luxury. We were not budging as we had no idea about this hotel and were also meeting friends who were at the Tropicana.

We were given wrist bands and they told us we could use the amenities and stay at the other hotel and they would send a car for us each day in the morning and take us back at about 4pm. This was not what we had paid for! We had done all our home work on the Tropicana and were not happy, so we told them we would not go. We could not eat or drink as we were so stressed, they told us we would have to wait for the reservations manager to arrive at 11am and stayed on the sofas by reception from 4.30am until about 11.30. We rang imperial travel in England which cost us £12, then at 11.30 we got a rep who asked us why we had not called him! We had rung the emergency number on our booking voucher, but they were worse than useless!!!! We had no number for a rep attached to the hotel (the accommodation was supposed to be booked by Low Cost Beds and the rep was attached to another company in Eygpt). The rep was terrible and chastised us for not booking trips with him, telling us that we were on our own if anything went wrong! He even tried to rip us off to book a taxi to the airport on our return!!

Anyway, I am starting to digress! Eventually we were shown to one room out of two which was a flea pit room 7116, (7117 would be available later) The block was much older than the new block nearer the lobby. We had a phone call from one of the ladies with blue coats that sit near the main reception, Olger, who we told we were not happy! She said that she would move us to a newer room. So we packed up our cases and went to a new room. However, baring in mind we had two children aged 14 and 15 they told us we would have two rooms on different floors which we were unhappy with. They said that they would see what they could do the next day. So we cramped into one room and had a shower as we were feeling disgusting baring in mind we had not had one for about 24 hours and were still in the same clothes!
We managed to see our friends who were so upset for us, and they said why didnt we ask if we could have their room as they were checking out at 6pm. We went back to desK (dont bother with men at main reception they cant understand you and don't seem to be bothered to leave you for hours and go off duty without even updating you seeing if you are ok). Olger, checked with desk and Yes we could go into family room and down grade ourselves!! oh joy!!

Anyway, after a wasted day and lots of stress and upset as well as being dehydrated and shattered from unpacking, re packing and lots of walking from one old room to two new, and no food, we decided to start our holiday!!

The hotel staff were great especially Kurany the Manager in the upstairs buffet restaurant, who would find us a table and bring us drinks every meal time! The pools fab! The desert rose sales men and the masage guy were a real pain disturbing you and hasselling you at the pool. Just tell them NO Thank you!!!! and dont let them hassel you. Found out that you can book trips on Sharm Club web and pay by pay pal which had good review by couple we met. On third day got tummy bug, then one by one all four of us got it! So did one of the couple we met. One thing I noticed was people's wrist bands that we v long dragged in food when they were getting it, maybe they had just been to the toilet with that hand!!! Doesnt bare thinking about does it!!!

Anyway, entertainment was the worst! After food just go to your room and watch a movie or go into Naama Bay and spend money.

The hotel was continuously being cleaned and standards were high. Our room was beautifully cleaned daily and we opted to have our towels replaced as we were all ill.

Cocktails great, bar staff fab, shame about the arrogant Russians, who strutted about in their speedos and expected everyone to serve them first!

Food great, mainly ate soup when ill, but freshly cooked food like omletes and pancakes great! Pizzas at 1pm freshly cooked near beach were fabulous! Felt so sorry for guys during Ramadam who could not drink and were putting pizzas in hot open ovens!!

Beach was great also, and throughout pool and beach had no probs getting a sun bed and nothing of ours was moved when we went for lunch. Pool attendants great!

Such a shame we had such a bad start, original bad rooms and bugs otherwise I would have given it 9/10 (entertainment sooooo bad)!
Fabulous, clean and pretty and so freindly!

This hotel was so fantastic, it was clean and the gardens were beautiful.
Our room was very spacious and modern, the food was very good with lots of choice, the beach and clear water was breath taking, the staff were very helpful and freindly and we would go back to this resort any time. Overall a great holiday!

myself and my wife stayed at the grand azure in june and found it superb, the lobby and bar were great to sit and relax in whilst have in a cocktail or 10,other reviews said they were watered down but i found them ok if you as mamouth or said for more vodka in it the will gladly top it up.the pools were brilliant and never seemed too busy, the beach was good and the service at the beach bar great ,i only had to wave and they would come over with more water and beers, you must by the canvass shoes to go out into the sea they are only a fiver, better that than stung by a fish, the tropicana was great for breakfast and lunch the aiters always look after you and the food was excellent, the main restaurant was good but the food a bit cold somedays,as reagards to dressing up and no shorts allowed ,the only people to disreagard this are the brits, some who look so out of place all i could do was laugh at them, we met some great friends who we are going back with next year, the rooms are very clean and the housekeeprs are very polite and friendly, well maintained and the a/c works a treat
if you book the shuttle bus make sure you are there early otherwise said brits will pinch seats (by the way i am english) make sure you get any taxis to agree price before you leave, you have to try the hard rock cafe it is cheap to eat allthough drinks a bit pricy but then again you are on holiday enjoy yourselves, make sure you drink plenty of water you will need it,it is readily available from all bars and rests.

enjoy your hols we did

should be a 2 star

from tatties
hotel is top notch but the rest is very poor, staff are lazy and rude, the food is either cold or only for the germans, the jetty to the coral is always closed, lastly you will get ill there is a very bad bug in naama bay resort which we put down to the fact that the gardens were watered with sewage water which then filters into the swimming pools also lots of building work going on. we complained to thomsons about this and they didnt want to know so dont bother complaining

absolutely fantastic 10/10

Hotel Grand Azure what a fantastic place i have travelled all over the world and this hotel is by far the best, its just amazing, when we first walked through the doors of reception and saw the lobby we were just gob smacked it was beautiful, and from there on things just couldnt get any better, everyone was so friendly and helpful, the Egyptians are just such a lovely bunch of people they make you feel like your part of the family, we couldnt believe it when we were taken to our rooms they were huge it was more like a house not a room sofas,tv,fridge, massive bathroom it was lovely, then you have the pools and the slides they are breath taking everythings all so well maintained, the gardeners are always out keeping the gardens looking nice, the waitores are great they like to show you tricks and make people smile and laugh there very friendly, the cleaners are also very friendly, well all in all there all very friendly, the animation team are great there so chatty and they treat you like theyve known you for years and your there best friends, they do trips every couple of night to the black house disco in naama bay which is brilliant, my sister also liked the animation team very much one in paticular who shes now madly in love with, we are returning back to Grand Azure in 12 days were so excited its just the best hotel ever i think it should be a 10star hotel not 5, to anyone that hasnt been before get down to the travel agents and book now, as your missing out, see everyone soon only 12days to go

Since the day i arrived in Sharm since the day i left, i felt welcome. At the airport, the people do tend to ask for money, so a firm answer is needed. When we arrived at the Grand Azure hotel, the men, without asking take your luggage inside. When my family and i entered through the doors to the main lobby the only words we could describe it as was "wow"; beautiful dome with colorful decorations on and marble floor which is everywhere. It is very big, with a few shops and a bar. The people are very kind and I would comment on are the waitors who served us at the bar. Esspecially one man, Sawe, who was more like our best friend then a waitor, he served us every night with our favourite coctails! the pools are amazing, we went at peak season, so i thought it would be generall busy, but as there are around 5 pools in the resort then it is quiet and you have plenty of space to swim. The food is very nice, lots of choice, there are several resteraunts which include, arabian, chinease, italian, seafood, and a couple more! it isnt probably the best for children as the food isnt really "european" but there is a kids restaurant at a different time. There is entertainment every night, either a disco, a show or something else. One night there was a egyptian cusine with typical egyptian dancing and food. The rooms were very good and i have to mention the cleaness of them. On our first night, we spent a room in a triple room. However, with two adults and one older child it wasnt the most spacoius. The next day we payed to be upgrded to a junior suite, and i am very glad i did. It had a relaxing sofa and chairs, and a beautiful bathroom, and just generally more space to move. Our holiday felt like it was complete. The snorkelling was wonderful, like another world. You do have a distance to get to the sea and then walk more to get to the snorkelling area on the pier, but it was definately worth the walk. We did not seem to spend most of our time on the beach, we spent it near the pool instead, but it was just as good. Everywhere was very clean and tidy and i would certainly reccomend it to anyone. Also, if you go to the lobby bar, just bring a few pounds with you (20 egyptian) because as the people get paid very little but work very hard they diserve tips.
overall it was wonderful, and i definately want to go back. it was a relaxing, hot, beautiful area which anyone would love.

Grand - only by name

from bruce1407
My Beautiful wife and I stayed at the Grand Azur for our Honeymoon and after what I can only describe as a disastrous trip we were pleasantly surprised on arriving at the hotel. Ok - this is where I have to put a dampener on things - Reception was manned by the '3 stooges' and while helpful they lacked any warmth, but don't let this fool you the resort is full of friendly and helpful people.

Our room was a Junior Suite and believe me it was all a suite could be, fantastic, and 'very clean, very clean' - no need for the backed beans or coffee mate!!! The only down side - the constant knocking at the door over the first couple of days where staff either asked if everything was ok or was the room clean... YES!!! for the 90th time!!

The resort is in no means lacking and covers a vast area, but a lovely shuttle 'Train' travels around the complex all day. I would not recommend this resort for those looking for a beach holiday, as the beach although great lacks one crucial element - the ocean.... The resort is situates on a Coral shelf which means that to reach any form of water greater than ankle depth you need to take a 500m walk along the purpose built walk way out to the reef. But this is well worth it for the simple fact that the fish are spectacular!!

The pools (three of them) make up for the lack of ocean, but be advised - its not the Germans you need to be worried about - its the Russians, get up any later than 06:00 to get a sun lounger and you will be surely disappointed. The grassed areas however are lush and often a welcome respite from the throng of Speedo’s 'Ruskies'... seeing is believing!!!

One further complaint I would mention - although the resort boasts many restaurants, its very difficult to get around all of them as there seems to be a swing in favour towards our eastern friends over who gets access to the select restaurants... The Resort staff were a mix of local Egyptian and Eastern European so I guess you can see where I going here, if your not on the list, you aint getting in Comrade!!!

For those seeking adventure below the surface of the Red Sea I would not recommend the on site Dive Centre, one trip and I had virtually signed up for 3 courses without even saying yes... The (German) company seemed hell bent on getting you to sign up for as many courses as possible so come the end of day one I was off that boat. We found Red Sea Diving College to be by far more professional and altogether a pleasure to dive with.

To sum up – the Grand Azur is an Oasis in the desert that offers warmth, comfort and lots of smiling faces just remember to set your alarm if you want to reserve your spot by the pool.

be dissapointed

just got back from lti grand azure, this hotel has a 5star rateing but we would give it a 3star,got to room found there were no toiletries in room.other things were wrong too,the toilet would not flush well and the room had seen alot of wear and tear.out side grounds were very nice just like in the brochure.not much for kids to do or adults apart from was poor and made myself and my wife ill, staff were very friendly. Overall nice place but not for us ok for those who like anything to eat and drink and are not choosy like me.

What a joke!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Myself and my family flew back to the UK on 1 August 2005 after a 2 week stay at the Grand Azure. The hotel is cosmetically pleasing, however, that is where the quality ended. The entertainment(animation) was almost non exisitant, and for the British, it was non existant. The animation team do not speak english to any standard, therefore, the compares etc, all spoke in german or russian, excluding the british families. The animation team(ha ha thats a joke)appear to be more interested in keeping themselves entertained and only seem to appear when the Blackhouse nightclub is open(Discotheque is located in Na'ama Bay at the Rosetta Hotel and not on site)even the singer and keyboard player deserted the hotel. The pools are fantastic and cater for all ages, but what do you do during the evening..........NADA. Fortunately for our family, our friends arrived after 6 days and we had chats much the same as when we are home.

Any positive reviews of the hotel must be made by individuals used to an unrated caravan park in Grantham. We are used to 5 star accommodation and we were severely disappointed, however, on a positive note the staff are very pleasant, but the service is slow and cold drinks...well forget it...try the lobby bar for chilled only. We were VIP guests and still unhappy with our holiday...we will not use LTI again. We will stick to IBEROSTAR from now on, they provide 1st class everything and even make sure that all nationalities are catered for during entertainment, dining, everything.

If you still decide to travel to the grand azure, you are guarenteed a giggle from maybe 2:30am when the towels go on the sunbeds.....yes they were GERMAN.

LOBBY BAR...FANTASTIC PEOPLE, MOSTAFA, AHMED, SAYED and MOHAMMED are all so wonderful but this still cannot take away our total lack of satisfaction. The Egyptian people are so very nice and really like the English, we cannot fault their attempts to please but there was not enough staff to cater for the guests and after the bombings the staff numbers were reduced further as many guests were cancelling their accommodation.

OTHER 5/10

OVERALL ....5.5/10. we will not return or recommend to others as there are far better holidays available.

Fantastic C You Next Year

On arrival at the LTI GRAND AZURE my wife and myself's first thoughts were wow , meaning this is to classy a hotel for what we had paid for our holiday. The reception to the hotel is breathtakin, and from then on the staff from porters to cleaners to waiters could not do enough to make sure that we had everything that we needed to make this week a week to remember, the room was big and had everything that you could wish for and more to the point comfortable and relaxin .
And as for the food there was more choice than a top restaurant in england and excellent to.The grounds to this hotel plus its pools catered for young as well as mature ages and again well maintained and clean, its beach and sand area were a delight to walk along .
Even though it was very hot most days the waiters on the beach area's would not like you to be without a drink or two around your sunbeds.
We have and will recommend this hotel to friends and people we know who are interested in going to sharm el sheikh

Great hotel and holiday!!!

from hollydolly11
We stayed at this hotel June 26th-July 10th and had a great holiday. The hotel is huge with an impressive air conditioned lobby, immaculate grounds, three huge pools, 6 restaurants, several bars and lovely welcoming staff.

We stayed in room 2107 which overlooks the quietest pool and is right near one of the swim up bars!!! The room was lovely and spacious and was always clean. We went on this holiday to relax and we certainly were able to do that. There are activities during the day which looked good but we were too lazy to bother joining in!

The main pool is the best as it is beautifully designed with plenty of shallow areas for kids or for just lying soaking up the sun. There are deeper areas for swimming too. There are always plenty of sun loungers available but if you want a parasol you need to get up early (7am) as these are quickly taken and when it is 40 degrees every day you need some shade!

The beach was quite nice but the sand is very gritty so wear beach shoes. The jetty out to the end of the coral is good as you can see all kinds of fish without going in the sea. If you do go snorkeling the range of fish you will see at the edge of the reef is fantastic - highly recommended.

The food at the hotel is usually very good but sometimes a bit hit and miss. In the Italian, Chinese and Seafood restaurants the food is very good and hot. We did not eat in the Arabian or the Bedouin tent. In the main buffet the food is good and when it is hot it is lovely but sometimes it is quite cool which means that food that is probably very nice isn't that appetising. This is a shame as the food quality and choice is good it just sometimes needs to be hotter!!! The snack bars for lunch are good as the food is freshly cooked. The pizzas near the beach are made to order - yum! The snacks by the main pool are also good.

A word of warning - you will get an upset stomach! This is nothing to do with the hotel. We spoke to people who had stayed at other hotels and it seems it is very common in this area of the world. It didn't spoil our holiday but we both felt rough for a couple of days - take a plentiful supply of imodium or equivalent and you will be fine. We didn't drink the water, cleaned our teeth with bottled water and didn't drink excessive amounts of alcohol so I'm not sure what causes it.

We went into Naama Bay three times and ate in the Hard Rock Cafe twice and McDonalds once and both were very cheap. The local pavement cafes are also good and inexpensive. We didn't get as much hassle from shopkeepers as we expected - a polite no thankyou is all that is required. If you do want to buy anything be prepared to haggle hard though. If you are going to buy snorkelling gear buy it in Naama not in the hotel as you will get a better deal. We also recommend quad biking in the desert - a good trip for 3 hours at sunset and only £25 sterling per bike which seats two. We didn't do any other trips but were told by others that the cairo tour is good.

Overall the holiday was great value for money and we would visit this hotel again!

Hello to Tracy, Nick, Lindsey, Lee, Stuart and Aimee. Had a great time with you all and hope to meet again!!!!!!!!

Just came back from staying at the Grand Azure and wanted to say it was absolutely fantastic.
If you need a break in a tropical paradise then this is the place to go. The hotel grounds are stunning, a walk along the jetty to see the fish is priceless and the scenery breathtaking.

Our room was like an apartment! And well maintained, the sheets are changed daily, who ever said men can’t do house work? Men do everything here, the whole fortnight we were their we only saw one woman and she was in the restaurant.
I read lots of reviews about the hotel on different websites before I went - that really made me fear the food and that it would be a real issue - but it wasn’t - we were absolutely fine and with a massive selection of food to eat from Italian, Chinese, Fish, Pizza....etc - we were totally spoilt for choice. Also I saw that the drinks were commented on but whatever you drink you are in for a treat as the bar staff seem to pour it like its water! And the cocktails aren’t bad either.
you didn’t have to fight for sun beds as there are plenty to go round, and the staff were lovely - its such a friendly place that we got to talk to all sorts of people - we would definitely go back.
The entertainment was a bit lacking, though the animation team really worked hard, but didn’t pester you. The staff are poorly paid, so regular tips of a 10 or 20 Egyptian pounds (£1 or £2 English) ensure that you are well looked after, and they are so friendly whether you tip them or not
If you like it HOT Egypt is your kind of place, 40++ every day. Thank goodness for that nice sea breeze.
. In all, this place is exceptional and great value for money well worth a visit.
